"Finest family business we've ever hired! No need to look further. The project included installing gutters on a home 100+ years old. No small task! I contacted four local installers: Companies 1 & 2 never returned my call; Company 3 scheduled two different times for a site visit and never showed; Company 4 (John's) not only returned my call, but conducted a site visit promptly and completed the gutter install as scheduled. I was impressed by the professionalism of John and his crew of skilled technicians. Seldom have I ever hired a contractor who I can say went above and beyond what was expected, but that is the case here. The team showed obvious respect for our home and property; as far as the actual install went, they performed magic. I would, and have recommended John's Continuous Gutter to anyone looking for gutter work. The final product can be summed in a word... "BRILLIANT"!"

"Snowden construction LLC did exactly what they said they would do ! Loved there quality work and dedication ! Even though my architect screwed up on some measurements, snowden construction had no problem fixing and adjusting things to make it work ! What most impressed me was one contractor that handled all of my needs !!! I didn't have to hire a bunch of different companies because snowden construction did it all ! I would definitely use them again on anyone of my projects they are very honest and very understanding and lenient ! I am a small owner-operated business owner that specializes in siding. I have been in this line of work for 4 years (construction in general for 8 years) and have worked with hardy board, cedar, vinyl, and wood (LP/ smart board). Able to install siding, soffit, and facia. Also able to install windows and doors. As well as Tyvek and window tape.

You cannot install clapboard siding on a bare, unprepared surface. Clapboard siding requires a clean, sturdy base made from plywood or similar materials, sometimes called backerboard. Then, it needs an underlayment or sheathing, a moisture membrane to help protect the exterior wall.

Note that sometimes clapboard siding is caulked as it’s installed for additional protection. We don’t suggest this: Caulking the siding can trap moisture inside the clapboards and lead to moisture damage over time. The siding needs some space to “breathe,” especially in rainy weather.

Yes, vertical and horizontal siding both come in the same materials, including wood, vinyl, aluminum, and engineered wood. The material you choose can significantly affect your siding’s overall price, lifespan, insulation properties, and maintenance costs. 

You should use a siding nail gun for siding installation, but if you don’t have one you can use a framing nailer instead, if the nails are long enough to firmly attach to the clapboard siding. However, framing requires longer nails that join lumber together. In that instance, siding nails will not be enough.

Avoid toxic chemicals that can leach into nearby lawns, as well as household ingredients like vinegar that can ruin paint and sealants.
