"Jimmy & his son had to tackle a very difficult job. Our cottage guest house had wallpaper from the 1930’s! It was on top of wood panelling, with a hard board glued with non soluble glue! It took almost 2 full days to remove! Jimmy had quoted me an hourly rate but then said in clear conscience he could’t charge me that much! So he charged me half!! He did a fabulous job & was very knowledgeable, on time, extremely pleasant & helpful!! I highly recommend him!!"

You’ll need to wash the walls to remove wallpaper adhesive residue after removal as part of the prep process for painting or rehanging wallpaper. Old adhesive can cause texture issues and prevent paint or wallpaper from adhering properly to the wall’s surface.

In most cases, it is not recommended to wallpaper over existing wallpaper, as the success depends on the type of paper already on the wall. While you might be able to cover non-coated wallpaper, you should never apply new wallpaper over a vinyl-coated one, which is more common. If it’s an oil-based paste, seal it in a plastic bag and throw it in the garbage. Otherwise, toss the leftover wallpaper paste in the trash. Although it’s water-soluble, don’t rinse unused wallpaper paste down the sink because it could dry in the pipes and cause a blockage.
