Customers say: True professional

"I used Scott's Home Renewal for a first floor renovation about three years ago, was pleased and hired them again for this. Not the cheapest contractor, but definitely the best I have used here. First class professionals; first rate subs, especially the tile and glass people The custom glass door arrived with the wrong specs, and the glass contractor got the factory to make a new one with only one day of waiting.. If you want it done right, contact Scott's."

"They did a good job. They were timely. I did not like that Neil kept giving me a hard time about an add on that I did not want. I already had all the materials and he was upset that they were not able to mark them up. I really liked that they offered to come right away to do the project after I had two other companies bail."

Small jobs welcome

"I have several projects to be done. 1) raccoons destroyed the inside of our shed & they fixed that. 2) redirected cement away from the eastside is house. 3) Beatiful big dog kennel with roof, fence, walls & cement. 4) water in basement, saved me tons of money by suggesting to lay a cement patio & redirecting the water away from the house. 5) I have so many other projects to be done & Essence construction will be the company I hire to do the work."

"Excellent. Materials and crew showed up in a timely manner, the crew was very polite and friendly, and they worked hard! Excellent workmanship, all the framing was done professionally, and it passed the city building inspector on the first visit. This was a big job, they had large equipment to lift and set the trusses. They installed windows and doors, everything is level and plumb. I'm thrilled with how smoothly this job went."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

To calculate the number of linear feet of baseboard you’ll need, measure the length of each wall of the room you’re installing them in as close to the floor as possible, rounding up to the next full linear foot. If it’s your first DIY molding job, having a few extra feet on hand for miscuts is a good idea.

By careful planning and reinforcement to maintain structural integrity.

Building a barndominium means converting a barn into a house. Barndominiums are becoming popular as spacious and stylish alternatives to typical housing structures. Old barns that become houses traditionally consist of wooden construction. However, newer structures, such as pole barns, often contain metal exteriors and roofs. Converting a metal outbuilding into a house presents an excellent opportunity to create a barndominium from metal.

Framing is the shell of the house. It includes several steps, including studs, plumbing, and electricity. A professional will ensure the wall frame is secured for the house’s structural integrity.

Framing prices change depending on the material and whether the wall is load-bearing. Most contractors use wood to frame a home, but metal is another popular choice.
