He called 30 minutes before arrival which meant I could leave work when I needed to instead of burning up leave sitting around waiting. This alone saved me money! When he arrived wearing Chuck Taylors and a cool newsie hat, I knew I had a good guy. He grabbed a small set of tools and walked up to my place with me. Once inside, he used one of his tools to check the wiring as part of his diagnostic process, and determined that only the outlet was bad, not the wiring. He replaced the outlet in about 90 seconds while talking to me (I was asking questions because I'm an annoying customer!) and once he had replaced the outlet cover, he tested it and showed me that it was working. He pulled out his paperwork which took maybe another 5 minutes and was out the door. From meeting him in the parking lot to seeing him out the door was maybe 20 or 25 minutes. Much of that was walking time and paperwork. He was incredibly efficient, personable, respectful of my home, and he even answered my geeky questions. He billed me exactly what was quoted over the phone with no surprises. I'm a very happy customer and would gladly welcome them into my home again for any other electrical issues. Another important detail: they scheduled me within 2 days! I called Tuesday afternoon, and they came Thursday afternoon. Also, they include their showup fee in their first half hour pricing...and it's a super reasonable price. The other 2 services I called were way more expensive AND didn't have any availability until later in the week or next week. These folks were great. It's been several years and they never finished. It was a $45,000.00 job and I think I still owe them $2,000.00 that I was holding back until he came and finished and they never came and finished, so I still have it. Honest to God, turn and run away as fast as you can. The fellow that gave us the quote had told us that he would be here the entire time. He assured us that he would be the man in charge and he would come out daily. I hardly ever saw him again after that. It just went on and on and on and on. It was horrible. It was the worst thing in my life. He had signed a contract that he would repair the roof as well. We never got any copies of the warranties. I downloaded them. The wind whistles through the closed and locked windows if the wind is strong and coming out of a certain direction. Most of the locks on the window are broken. When they put the windows in, there were open holes where they screwed in the screws. I found a whole bunch of them laying in the dirt. We have a railroad tie wall around a large patio in the back side and I told them that to be careful of it. I didn't want it to get destroyed because it held up a patio wall. But one of the workers jumped off of it one day. I happened to see it happen. When he did, the top railroad tie came off and so he kind of took it and put it over against the fence and never said a work to me about it. They were also supposed to take are of the rotten T-111 siding that was on the house and replace it with plywood or other siding, something suitable. Luckily, I had taken some pictures all the way around the house before they even started the job. I have pictures of where we knew there was rotten siding. They finally sent someone here. He worked his rear end off, but he didn't do a good job and he didn't get finished. The following year, Drew made his yearly call. I answered the phone and it sounded like someone was conversing with someone else there and I hung up and never heard from him again. He told me he was going to get back to me about the windows, but he didn't. The patio is sinking, because they didn't put the stuff they put underneath the shingles to make a dam, from when it starts to run off or whatever. So, water just pours between the house and the gutter. It drips constantly. They were made aware of that. The owner signed a contract for that, so I feel it's his fault. They actually glued the carpet to the trim by a sliding glass door they replaced and that is molding now because water leaks in and up to it. The put up a little post, but now the post is sinking with the patio. Pretty soon, the whole front will be sinking. The price was outrageous and he said that was because his materials was so much better than anyone else's. He said the projects will be done by the first of the year. The communication was horrendous. The windows that were supposed to be installed by the first of the year weren't even manufactured by then and they had been lieing to me about it. The whole thing just went on and on and on and on."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ia/hiawatha/home-town-restyling-reviews-468280.htm"},"position":8},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"EJS Roofing LLC","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"IA","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Eean C."},"reviewBody":"We could not have been happier with EJS Roofing from start to finish. Ed Schroeder, the owner, is extremely responsive and professional. When you call he is the one that answers the phone, and if you leave a message he always calls back. We got several estimates last October 2011, but because it was late in the season, all roofers were booked through the end of the season before it got too cold. Several other roofers didn't even bother to call us back, but even though EJS was booked, he still came to give us an estimate. After sending his his foreman to come look at our roof the next day, that same week Ed was sitting with us in our kitchen going over the estimate in detail for over 45 minutes. The other two companies just mailed us an estimate. One thing I loved is that Ed patiently answered all of our many questions explaining in great detail exactly what they were going to do. We knew we were going to wait until spring to have the work done. In the meantime, I needed several patches done where shingles had blown off my roof. Ed said, "I'd have to charge you $200-$300 to have one of my guys come down and do the patches to hold you over, but if you're mildly handy, here's how you could do it yourself." He then gave me a free 15 minute lesson on how to patch a roof, giving me a list of the materials I'd need and showing me how to do it. I spent $35 at the hardware store and took two hours on the roof myself to patch the missing shingles that Saturday. Another thing I loved is that Ed said they'd be willing to lock in their price that Fall and they would eat any cost increase between then and this spring when the work would be done. The other roofing companies said they'd have to re-do the estimate in the spring. Last, Ed gives a 10% discount to Angie's List customers, so after that discount, his estimate was also the most competitive of the three we got. Ed called us in March to schedule our job this April, and even though he suggested one day, he was happy to schedule it a week later which was more convenient for us. His crew showed up bright and early Monday morning at 7 am and went right to work. They did the entire job in one day!! I didn't officially count, but I recall there being around 7-9 crew members here from 7 am to 7 pm working hard to get the job done. Ed stopped in three different times that day to check on how the work was coming, first in the morning, then midway through, then at the end of the day. The crew laid huge tarps all around the house to cover our bushes, grass, driveway, and patio to catch any debris from the tear off, but nearly all of the torn-off shingles went into their garbage trailer parked in the driveway. By around 10-11 am they were re-papering, putting down the ice-shield, and laying the new shingles. They took a 1 hour break for lunch, and then came back and didn't stop until the whole roof was done. They cleaned up all the tarps, garbage, etc. They had two different guys waving the "nail magnets" all over our property picking up stray nails for about an hour and a half while the last guys on the roof finished up. They left the trailer overnight in our driveway and told me they were going to have a couple guys come back in the morning to do the finishing touches of clean up. This was fine by me. That evening while the crew was cleaning up, I noticed for the first time that when our house was built, the siding installers forgot to install two tiny little triangular patches of siding about 9 inches by 4 inches in two little corner nooks where ice and water could build up. I also went up on the roof myself to closely inspect the shingles and found three roofing nails that hadn't been covered with little globs of black tar as the rest had been (they were hidden under a part of the roof that overhangs another and would have been easy to miss by anyone). Ed told me that when his guys came back the next day to finish up cleanup, he would also have them install two patches of counter flashing cut to cover the missing siding to prevent potential leakage from ice build up and recommended we have a professional sider follow-up. He also made sure those exposed nails were covered with the black tar stuff as well. They did exactly as he said they would early the next morning. The last thing I loved is that Ed requires no deposit, no money down, and no payment until the work is completed to your 100% satisfaction. He gives a 10 year workmanship warranty (we could have paid a little more for a 15 or 20 year workmanship warranty if we wanted), and the shingles come with a lifetime manufacturer warranty. I rarely write reviews, and I expect a lot in terms of customer service. If I had negative things to say I would say them, but I honestly could not have been more pleased with EJS Roofing. I love the way our new roof looks. His crew did a great job and completed it faster than I thought they would. We paid a competitive price for quality work. I will recommend EJS roofing to anyone - even my next door neighbor who needs his roof done now too! Thanks Ed!"},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ia/cedar-rapids/ejs-roofing-llc-reviews-4510879.htm"},"position":9}]}

The main problem was that I was told while the moving was in progress that they couldn't finish it that day, as they would not "have enough time" and would go over 8 hours (the estimate stated 8-10 hours) and I was told by the moving guys that I needed to call the office and schedule another...
The handyman called me and informed me that the window well was not a regular fit and that it would need a special fit. He then asked what my goal was with the window well. I informed him that I just wanted to keep water out. He then said that he could just put a cover on it, and did it that...

FAQs for patio cover service projects in University Heights, IA
While the terms deck and porch are often used interchangeably, they are two distinct home features. Porches offer a roof that protects from the elements when coming and going from the house. Generally, porches are on the front of your home. On the other hand, decks are generally built in the backyard of a home and offer no roof or protection from the elements, like rain or snow. Porches typically require less maintenance and upkeep thanks to the roof, but both features require regular cleaning and repairs to maintain good condition.
The cost of an awning is $1,400 to $4,400 on average. However, this cost could be as low as $100 or as high as $7,500, depending on a few factors. The type of awning you choose, the size you need, and your location all affect your overall cost.
For example, portable awnings you can put up and take down yourself range from $100 to $400, whereas motorized awnings are more luxurious and cost between $2,000 and $3,500.
The cost to build a deck is $8,025 on average. However, this cost can range anywhere from $1,500 to $22,000, depending on multiple factors, such as size, materials, and deck type. You can expect to pay $30 to $60 per square foot when building a new deck.
Cedar decks are often the most cost-effective option, ranging from $4 to $9per square foot for materials. However, pressure-treated decking, which is resistant to rot, is more expensive, ranging from $15 to $25 per square foot for materials.
Awnings are either fixed or retractable and can be paired with a variety of cover materials. Fixed awnings are a permanent outdoor feature of a building. These are highly durable and require ongoing maintenance. Once installed, the position of this awning cannot be changed.
Retractable awnings are more popular than fixed awnings since the cover can open and close. This allows homeowners to open and close the awning, depending on the weather. When not in use, it can be closed to allow for extra space.
Besides the type of awning, you’ll need to choose the type of cover. Your awning installation professional will review your options with you, including availability and costs. The types of covers you can choose from include:
Wood, which is durable but can be damaged easily by rainwater and fire
Cotton offers flexibility, weatherproofing, and easy cleaning
Canvas is highly durable and is a good choice for retractable awnings
Metal is sturdy but is prone to rust
Polyester is easy to clean and is a more breathable option
Polycarbonate is highly resistant to UV rays and is difficult to damage
