"I had called around to a few different tree service companies for quotes. I kept getting the run around from a few of them, and I still havenâ t heard back from some. I found E&H Maintenance and Tree Service on Home Advisor. They came out the same day, gave a very reasonable quote, and got started right away. The work they did was outstanding. Also, remember to remove dead and diseased branches first, then proceed with pruning the rest of the tree.

For trimming trees, your best tool is a pair of pruning shears or loppers. Both options work best for branches that are under 3 inches in diameter. Trimming trees with a larger diameter may require a robust tool like a small chainsaw or a handsaw, so take into account your tree’s diameter when deciding between tools.

You’ll want to have your palm trees trimmed during the spring, ideally in May, before hurricane season sets in, which generally takes place during the late summer. Palm trees grow fastest over the summer months. You’ll also want to trim your palm trees when you notice:

  • Brown fronds 

  • Dry leaves

  • Flower pods

  • Fruit

  • Fronds overgrown in power lines

  • Frond encroaching upon your neighbor’s home or yard 

  • Visible damage from a storm
