Every home and commercial business in the Adair area had severe damage in the form of roof and shingle damage, broken windows and siding and sheet metal damage. Hundreds of autos and trucks received extreme damage as well if they were exposed to the storm that day. I live out in the country east of Adair and my property and vehicles were also hit. I provide this background information to tell readers that because of the amount of heavy damage our local contractors were maxed out in repair work and wouldn't be able to do shingle replacement for far longer than I felt I could wait. I wanted the new shingles to have a chance to seal down with any remaining warm sunny weather we might have yet this early fall.
One of the Blackstone Exteriors representatives dropped a business card at my home a few weeks ago, and I eventually made contact with him. We discussed roofing arrangements, Blackstone agreed to do the roof for the amount of insurance settlement. It took about another 10 days, but I received a couple days notice of when the crew was to arrive. The crew of 7 workers arrived at their appointed time, immediately set out to work, stripped off the old damaged shingles, prepared the underlayment for the new shingles and a few short hours later, my roof was done. The crew cleaned up the area of scraps and hauled away the trailer full of the old damaged shingles.
The only small complaint I had was that the roofing crew failed to run a magnet around my house to pick up stray nails. I had to borrow a co-worker's to get the job done. I brought this up to the company representative who then took off an amount we mutually agreed upon on the day we settled up. Overall, so far I'm very satisfied with the job. I would recommend Blackstone Exteriors to anyone interested.

His guys told me otherwise. none of these people have proper credentials to do the jobs they are hired for. They have experience, yes, but as you can see from the grades I gave them, their experience didn't count for much. I didn't hire these contractors. They were hired through an agency I received financial assistance from to get these repairs done.. The owner already has another full-time job and only showed up at my house when there was a problem. There were a lot of problems. The guys he hired to work for him never showed up on time. There were a few days they didn't show up at all when they were supposed to, even leaving my toddler son and me without hot water for a weekend. This job took a total of over 2 weeks. It should have been completed in less than one. Dave himself supervised and aided in the installation of the furnace and air conditioning unit. The only problem I've had with this unit was a small leak that was a manufacturer's defect and no fault of Dave's or the guy he had helping him. This was the only part of the job that went right. The first time the vinyl was laid in the kitchen, they guys who laid it weren't familiar with the glue they were using and how quickly it set up so the floor was laid crooked and the guys ripped it when they tried to force it into place. They then had the nerve to be upset when I told them I wanted it redone. Second time vinyl was laid, was done so by different guys and it went a lot smoother. However, to get rid of all the excess glue that got all over my cabinets and the vinyl, the first guys used Goo Gone, which had an added benefit of melting the black rubber soles of one of the guys' shoes, which he then tracked onto my dining room carpet! So, now my carpet's ruined. Dave did come out with a Rug Doctor and try to clean it up, but it's melted rubber. It's not coming up. A cabinet housed my hot water heater. Due to the presence of mold I was unaware of, the whole cabinet had to be torn out and rebuilt. The walls that were removed were paneling and the walls that were rebuilt were drywall. I didn't have a problem with the difference, however, the cabinets and crown molding that were hanging in the laundry room were not fitting and all crown molding had to be replaced. A guy even hung one of the cabinets up side down. After it was done, my mom and uncle came to town and saw a small surface tear in the vinyl. Admittedly, the last thing I wanted was these people in my house again, so I waited until my family left until I called the owner, Dave, about this problem. First he told me he'd take care of it the best he could. Then I stopped hearing from him. He never showed. None of his employees ever showed to fix this small tear in the vinyl. Months went by and my phone calls were not returned. When I finally did get ahold of Dave again, he denied responsibility for the tear but said he's still send someone out to fix it. Now, my one-year warranty on their work has expired, floor is still not fixed and I'm still waiting. They also do roofs, and landscaping (pretty much anything to make a buck) DO NOT hire these people! And make sure you see proper licensing credentials from anyone you do hire."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ia/unknown/commercial-contractors-reviews-7613470.htm"},"position":4},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"2nd Street Repair","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"IA","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Gary S."},"reviewBody":"Scott is all business and runs a great shop. But Mike came within hours of my call, from the next county over. He did not ask for a trip charge.
He had to replace other pipes as we began trying them out after the leak I reported was repaired. The house had been closed down for years, so I understood why several had broken from freezing. I would have paid just about anything, but he only charged $145. The crawl space he had to go clear through was very unpleasant, but he is just the nicest guy and quite professional. He would not remark on the dirt and cobwebs.
He proceeded after testing the water to light the gas water heater without being asked. I just can't say what a pure joy it is in 90-degree weather to have someone nice care that I was going without running water, do a perfect job (replaced pipes are holding up fine), and then not overcharge me. God Bless that man.

Called Vapor Viper and they ran vid cam thru line and found the break. This narrowed the repair area to a 2 square foot area ( rather than digging 60 ft to expose break - part of which was under concrete) saving many hundreds of dollars in repair. Actual time to find break in line was only 1/2 hour. The bill was a little high but they traveled 60 miles round trip and saved me a bunch so I didn't complain. If the call had been local the charge may have been less. Absolutely worth the money and I would recommend them.

Nothing could be done to repair the leak until we ran the tank out of gas ( yes they could release the gas into the air but at $2 per gallon that's a lot of money and waste). So, with winter approaching we continued to use gas in our home to heat water and to operate a boiler for our hot water heat system. We were instructed on how to monitor the guages on the tank so we would get a better idea when we would run out. Once we got the tank almost empty Access Energy brought out a smaller 100 gallon tank and set it next to our tank. We were instructed on how to change the tank over to the smaller one in case we ran out of gas on a weekend or (heaven forbid) Thanksgiving weekend. Other than the fact that our pressure guage wasn't working, all went well. We woke on a Sunday morning without hot water or heat, changed the tank over ( just like changing the tank on the BBQ) re-lit the pilots and we were temporarily back in business. I called the technicians cell phone number on Monday and he was at the house that afternoon to change the valve. He also put the remaining fuel in the small tank into the big one and said a truck would be here tomorrow to put as much in the tank as we want. Sure enough next day our tank was filled and an envelope hung on our door with a bill for the gas. Still haven't recieved a bill for the valve work yet, but I'm sure it's in the mail. It's only been four days."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ia/mount-pleasant/access-energy-cooperative-reviews-6414213.htm"},"position":9}]}

The average cost to install a new water heater is around $1,300, but you can expect to pay between $875 and $1,750, depending on the kind of water heater, the size of the unit, and the professional chosen to complete the work. Tankless water heaters can push your price higher, as installation is more complicated, with prices as high as $3,500. The location and accessibility of your water heater will play a role in the project cost, as those sitting in tight spaces like a crawl space will drive up your labor costs.
Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

It is very difficult and dangerous to install your own water heater, so we strongly recommend against tackling this as a DIY project. Not only will you need to wire your water heater, but you’ll also need to connect plumbing to the intake and outlet. Sweating copper pipes and connecting wiring properly are skills most DIYers don’t have, and even if you do feel confident you can do it, working with water and electricity always leaves the potential for electrocution. Hiring a local water heater installer is well worth the investment.
The average cost to hire a plumber is around $100 an hour but can vary between $45 and $200 an hour depending on the plumber’s experience and the repair that you need. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays, and emergency plumber rates average $150 per hour, in addition to a flat-rate trip fee of $100 to $350.
