A Versa lift attic lift is the safest way to get your seasonal decorations and valuables into and out of the attic. Having a garage elevator from Versalift will make putting your stuff away quick and convenient; giving you the ultimate attic storage room you always wanted. Not only is it easy to install but a Versa Lift attic is the best place to store your keepsakes, keeping them close. The Versalift is easy to install for any Handyman or contractor. You can also add the Versarail attic safety rail to your current attic ladder to make going into and out of the attic safer and easier.

"I received an elevator kit and assembled it myself. The instructions were OUTSTANDING! Clear, concise, comprehensive. Hired someone to cut the hole in the garage attic floor and installed it myself."

Home and Garage Organization questions, answered by experts

In most cases, you do not need planning permission to change a garage door to a normal door, unless a specific restriction is present on your home’s deed. If you’re changing the door because you are trying to convert the garage into a living space, you will need to work with building control for proper signoffs to ensure your conversion meets all of the necessary construction standards.

If you're handy and don’t mind dealing with your local permitting office, you may be able to convert your garage on your own. While working with a home remodeling company may cost more, the added expense is often worth it. A home remodeling contractor knows what they're doing and will be sure that your project follows the rules.

For a garage to count as living space—and towards your home’s total square footage—it needs to be attached to the rest of your home and have permanent finishings such as proper insulation, finished walls and ceilings, and adequate ventilation. It also needs to be livable at all times of the year, so it should be heated if it gets cold in the winter and cooled for hot summers.

Not all garages are structurally designed to support the weight of a room above, so the answer depends on a few things. A critical first step is consulting with a structural engineer or building professional to assess the project's feasibility. Your home addition pro will assess what kind of foundation reinforcement will be needed to build the additional space you desire.

Most contractors aim for about a 20% profit on a job, leaving themselves room for unexpected expenses or delays. After accounting for materials, labor, and insurance, the profit margin for most contractors is between 10% and 20%. Fluctuating costs of materials and labor affect the ultimate percentage.
