"Afterwards, they said the upper gutters were clear, but that the downspouts leading underground had a blockage and maybe a potential break (since they found rocks). They cleared the blockage and now the gutters flow and drain good even with the recent very heavy rainfall (downpours!). I agreed to the $125 estimate beforehand, but since the upper gutters were clear the job was much easier and quicker than expected. More like a value of $100 for the level of effort. With that said, I want to say I was happy with the work (and result) and gladly paid the agreed upon $125. I paid in cash and didn't get a paper receipt, only an e-mailed invoice with the amount charged, not amount paid. This made me feel uneasy. Do I have a record that I paid the bill? Not really..."

"LeafFilter doesn't clean gutters, they sell and install their LeafFilter Gutter products and only clean the gutters if you buy their product. I can't even begin to afford their product so I wasn't able to get my gutter cleaned by them."

"My only concern was a down spout on the roof from a new piece of gutter. I was told this is normal and would not cause a leak. It looks strange because that piece of gutter was originally not on the house. As long as this is true, I am very happy with my new gutters."

"Joe and his crew did a great job on my gutters! I had an opportunity to see how the gutters would perform as we got dumped on for about a week with approximately 4-5 inches of rain falling. Yay! no more waterfalls they held up great. My only negative is the crew could have cleaned up the mud, etc from my driveway and sidewalk. It has been a couple of weeks and one of the workmen must have dropped something on my rear deck and chipped my composite deck and neglected to tell me."

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

If you want to avoid burying your downspouts, several alternatives can help direct water away from your home's foundation. One option is to connect a rain barrel to your downspout. During a storm, the barrel collects water that you can later use for irrigating your lawn or garden. Another common solution is to install an above-ground downspout extension. This can be done in a couple of ways:

  • Splash Guards: Placing a splash guard, available at most hardware stores, under your downspout can act as a simple funnel to direct water away from the house.

  • Downspout Extensions: You can add an extension to the end of the downspout's elbow to carry water further into your yard. Some extensions are flexible, allowing you to maneuver them around landscaping.

These above-ground solutions are particularly useful if your home has a slab foundation that you cannot dig up. However, they have limitations. An extension may not move water as far from your home as an underground system. More importantly, if your yard slopes back toward your house, these methods will be ineffective, and burying your downspouts remains the best option to prevent potential flooding and water damage.

Regularly clean debris, check for leaks at seams, and ensure proper drainage to prevent clogging and water damage.

Ensures thorough cleaning, preventing blockages and potential water damage.

If not properly maintained, an underground downspout may damage your home's foundation. A clogged downspout can back up, causing water to pool around the base of your home and seep into the foundation. Regular inspections and maintenance keep your downspout in good working order, preventing damage and protecting your home.

Yes, there are several downsides to installing rain chains. For one, rain chains have a lower flow capacity than a typical gutter and downspout system. This means that if there is a rainstorm, the rain chain can stop working completely. Rain chains also cannot redirect rainwater away from your house. In homes with a sloped yard, this could cause water damage in your foundation or basement.
