"Diam Pest Control will be the only pest control company I will use. James arrived right on time and immediately began to assess the problem. We were originally quoted for a higher price but once he looked at the problem he made an honest call that saved us money. He was very professional (wore shoe covers), kind, and very knowledgeable. I can't say enough about this company! Don't think twice, give them a call."

"I asked home advisor for referrals for removing an animal from the wall of my house. Cory at Okoboji Pest Control was the first to call me and, although he doesnâ t normally perform that service, he gave me advice on completing the job myself and saved me quite a bit of money. He even called back the next day to make sure my job was completed. Absolutely exceptional customer service from Cory. It took most places 24 hours to even return my call for a service request. I would definitely use this company in the future.!"

"They have been very nice. It didn't cost me anything. I expected that they have a charge for coming and checking everything. He came over and looked at everything and he gave me a price. I felt that the whole place was full of termites. I have a lot of trees in my yard and he found nothing. He did the garage and it was separate. He looked at the crawlspace in my basement. He looked everywhere and did not find anything. That was great. He said if I want to do treatment, he gave me a price for that for the next 5 years. I had none but if I want to have him come and treat it. I was by myself. He answered all my questions fully and didn't try to pressure me into anything. They are very good in easing my worries and I had the option to pick to have it treated. It was all at one shop. He didn't have to come back, didn't have to ponder, didn't have to do anything. He eased my fear of termites in this house versus 6:36-38. It was very good. I have a part of a crawlspace basement. Part of it is full and part of it is crawl. He crawled up and even looked at the back of the house. His responsiveness was very good. He said he would be here on time and he was here on time. He was very knowledgeable. I kept his card. I'm here all my life so I know there are termites but I've never had any so I opted not to but I may still go back and do it. I would call him."

Pest Control questions, answered by experts

While possums don’t typically carry rabies, they can have lice, fleas, ticks, and mites. According to the University of California’s Pest Management Program, possums can also carry diseases like leptospirosis, tuberculosis, toxoplasmosis, coccidiosis, and fevers. Possums are also the carriers of a parasite that can pass to horses and cats called Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM).

Since fleas are so tiny, the best way to find them is with a very thorough search. Focus on two specific areas. First, look where your pets spend lots of time sleeping or playing, which is where fleas are likely to linger. Second, look at ground-level fabrics like carpet, furniture upholstery and similar spots where it’s easy for fleas to hide. While you’re probably worried about fleas inside your home, it’s a good idea to check outdoors around patios or outdoor chairs to see if fleas are congregating in specific spots.

Unlike for rats and mice, poisonous baits and fumigants aren’t a legal option for dealing with squirrel invasions. So, don’t set any traps up using standard rodenticides. Remember that you typically need a permit for trapping and relocating squirrels found on your property. Some states even specify the types of traps you need to use.

Absolutely! Keeping up to date with regular flea treatments for pets, washing their bedding, and vacuuming regularly are all simple and inexpensive ways to help prevent a flea infestation from developing in the first place.

Annual flea control treatments for your pet typically cost between $40 and $200. Talk to your vet about safe and effective options.

Keeping up with garden maintenance also helps make your yard less inviting for fleas. Mow your lawn regularly, don’t overwater, and avoid attracting rodents by carefully storing food waste, removing clutter, and sealing holes.

The best way to deal with a rodent problem is to avoid it in the first place. One way to do that is to make your home smell uninviting to them. Here are some household products that can repel rodents. When using oils, try soaking a cotton ball in the stuff and leaving it in places rodents frequent:

  • Peppermint oil

  • Eucalyptus oil

  • Cinnamon

  • Vinegar

  • Cedarwood

  • Cloves

  • Garlic

  • Chili oil/powder

  • Cayenne pepper
