It is too bad because the technology seems to work fairly well, and that’s why they are getting 3 stars, but I would not use them again."

While you’ll pay for the labor, professional removal companies can save you money on dumping fees if they can recycle or sell the old concrete. If possible, you can also do your own concrete demolition, which can cut down on labor costs. Paying for haul-away service only, you could save between $1.50 and $5.50 per square foot of concrete instead of paying for demolition and removal.

Yes, tile floor removal is a physically demanding project that takes between eight and 12 hours per 100 square feet. It also requires protective gear and closing the area off with construction-grade plastic sheeting to avoid dust and damage to other parts of your home.

First, most contractors will have a structural engineer create a report and plan for your project to ensure it’s safe to cut into the load-bearing wall. The contractor will then excavate around the wall, if necessary, measure the opening—allowing for additional space to fit and level the door, and then cut the doorway out. They will likely install a steel lintel as a header over the door for support. Once the doorway is cut out, they’ll demolish the concrete using sledge hammers and masonry chisels, clean up the surrounding concrete, and seal around the door with masonry mortar. 

The best tool for cutting concrete depends on the size of the job and your comfort level. For very small projects, a hammer and chisel can work well. Angle grinders and circular saws are good options for medium-size jobs, and walk-behind concrete cutting saws are best for larger jobs, like cutting through thick slabs.

It is possible to remove a Lally column in the basement, but a lot of planning and money will go into doing it safely. Since Lally columns provide structural support, you’ll need a structural engineer to draw up plans for your renovation and determine what additional supports—like steel I-beams—can replace the column. You should never attempt to remove a basement Lally column yourself, as doing so will almost certainly compromise the structural integrity of your home.
