"Rich and his team did an excellent job repairing and replacing some of our exterior siding and also painting the exterior of our colonial two-story. Siding repair, painting exterior trim and siding as well as staining our deck and pergola were accomplished in a timely manner and most importantly- they did an excellent job. Highly, highly recommend! Our house looks brand new! Rich and his team were also so nice and very personable and easy to work with."

"Todd was very efficient in dismantling the hood, cutting a hole through the wall to the outside, laying the piping, sealing, and testing the new setup. What impressed me was the fact that he didn’t try to sell me a new hood. He also was very conscious of any messes he may make, laying down drop clothes, etc. and disposing of his garbage in appropriate receptacles. I was very happy with the time it took him to do the job. Super quick, yet high quality work. From what I have experienced thus far (I have him booked for a couple other projects), Todd is a stand-up trustworthy guy who knows what he’s doing. He is super busy so it may take him a while to respond to inquiries, but he’s definitely worth the wait. I would highly recommend him to family & friends."

"Great! The owner(Mike) met with me that very next evening. Not to mention I was having issues having anyone out to give me a quote. In the beginning he was up front with me and told me he was pretty busy but assured me he would find a way to make it happen. From that moment I can tell he was compassionate about his customers. He was very professional and I could tell he knew what he was doing as a business owner. Looking forward to doing business with Briggs Elite Services in the future. I would absolutely recommend them for all your paint and drywall sevices."

"They came in with a competitive bid, but theirs included the carpentry repairs from their subcontractor Nick (he knows what he is doing). They did a great job. I think they respond best to pictures being printed out with highlights on your concerns. Texting will not get you too far (update: Joseph let me know his phone broke right before my project, which is why he struggled with communication). We exceeded my budget due to unforeseen siding repairs, but hey they had the eye for seeing the needed repair. They always let me inspect it myself too to make the decision. I was a little concerned at first that the project would not be completed up to my high standards, but once I figured out how they operate (present pictures of your concerns) they took care of everything. I will say I was quite hands on, and never gave Joseph and Chad a full opportunity to catch things on their own, but if I see something I will say something to help them out along the way and present my expectations. I noticed in the walkthrough they were catching things I did not (which is also why I chose them during the bid). They used Sherwin Williams Super Paint - works for me."

"We have used Josh Davis service twice. (1) For power washing and weather painting our wooden deck (2) Clean up landscape and cut an unwanted tree near exterior wall. Josh was very professional and suggested the correct cleaning and painting option for the deck. On both the jobs, he was very reasonably priced and the job was really well done. He responded promptly and finished the job on scheduled time. I would definitely hire him again."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

A five-gallon bucket of deck stain will cover roughly 875 square feet in a single coat. Actual coverage will vary based on the type of wood you’re staining and the number of coats. If you plan on doing multiple coats, multiply the square footage by the number of coats to calculate how many buckets of stain you’ll need.

Stain is meant to be absorbed by the porous wood, allowing some of the natural grain to show through. With that in mind, you don’t want to add more stain than the wood can absorb, as you risk covering up its natural markings. Generally, two coats is the maximum you should do, although very dense hardwoods may only be able to take a single coat.

There are more pros than cons when staining a deck. Deck stain is more affordable than paint, it protects the wood and allows the natural textures to shine through, and it can revive the appearance of your home. However, deck stain also requires prep work (sometimes days or more), carries more upkeep than a painted deck, and can fade over time if not cared for.

Always sand a deck before repainting so the wood is smooth and ready for paint. While you do not need to fully remove paint before repainting, sanding helps remove any areas with weather and sun damage. Sanding also helps remove chipped or flaking paint and opens the wood pores to improve paint adhesion.

Generally, these steps are included in exterior house painting:

  • Prepping and protecting the areas not being painted

  • Scraping away loose paint

  • Cleaning off dirt, grease, and debris

  • Caulking gaps and openings

  • Priming with a quality paint primer

  • Painting the prepared areas, including trim and accents with chosen paint finish

  • Adding a second coat

  • Cleaning up the site and disposing of tape, plastic, and drop cloths
