"John Phillpis Construction (JPC) was a great find. First, he was recommended by my Real Estate broker. That’s a plus BTW. JPC started by fixing a consistent leak in a downstairs below ground bedroom. It wasn’t an easy fix. His men had to dig a trench the entire length of the house. Install drainage pipes and stuff like that. It never will leak again! ... Then they fixed a wall I had to crawl around for 9 years. But on simple jobs he works alone. Like buying and installing 2 new fans from Home Depot, a Samsung TV from Amazon and dumping 3 junk TiVo’s. Today, he fixed bathtub fixtures I couldn’t get anyone to fix for 8+ years. He found the American Standard(?) valves in an outta the way plumbing store in the boonies. After visiting 2 better known places. The tub/hot tub works now ... finally! No cutting tile or replacing $500 fixtures! I have a long list of jobs awaiting... I’m glad I found John Phillpis. I hope this helps"

"We needed a new roof 26 years after MRC had last done our roof. We worked with Mark Hill to find a roof coating that would cool our house. He recommended a product called Permalock Metal roofing and a silicone coating for our flat roof. We have had the roof for 1 year and this summer has been nice and cool. Thank you to the team at MRC."

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

The least expensive basement waterproofing methods include grading soil away from your home, installing downspout extenders on your gutter system, and applying a waterproof paint on the interior of the foundation walls. Installing a French drain is a relatively inexpensive method if you do the work yourself, although it’s labor-intensive and can be challenging to install properly.

You can DIY basement waterproofing in some ways to help save on the overall costs. If your basement isn’t experiencing a lot of water but is noticeably humid, you can try running a dehumidifier that will pull the excess water out of the air. If you notice water leaking due to outdoor drainage issues, you can add downspout extensions to keep rainwater away from your home.

However, if the problem is more severe and requires a more extensive solution, it’s best to call a basement waterproofing professional to assess the treatment you need and install waterproofing safeguards properly. Since keeping water out of your basement is important, ensuring this job is done correctly the first time is best.

Water damage in your home’s foundation is gradual, often beginning with small cracks that let water seep in. Over time, this weakens the foundation, which then allows in more water, causing significant structural damage. This process can take months or years to destroy your foundation, and the repairs can be very costly. Have your foundation inspected regularly to prevent significant damage.

Yes, you can enclose your crawl space. Enclosing your crawl space can promote energy efficiency and reduce the risks of pests and mold by limiting factors like humidity. It can also reduce heat loss, which is why doing so for the winter can make your home more comfortable.

Crawl space encapsulation can make repairs more complicated, particularly if you have plumbing or wiring surrounding your crawl space area. Additionally, some home designs benefit from the additional airflow that crawl spaces with vents provide. Vents are no longer an option after encapsulation. Always talk to your crawl space contractor to ensure the pros outweigh the cons before investing in the installation.
