Customers say: True professional

"Kudos to Rustic Remodel for a job well done. Patrick and helper arrived on time. They were professional and personable. They did an excellent job installing a door between the sunroom and dining room. They also assembled a dresser and repaired the wardrobe door. I was very impressed with the quality of the work and their work ethic. Will definitely hire again for other projects."

"We hired Eric and his team, Timmy and Andrew, to build a huge deck with a small screened porch. They were absolutely awesome in every way! The project was completed in 2 weeks and the finished product not only looks beautiful, but it is solidly built. Eric made sure everything was done right to prevent any problems, like water intrusion, from happening (we have had water issues prior to his being here.) Eric is honest, hard-working and trustworthy. All three of them are truly nice guys who are easy to deal with and obviously concerned with customer service. I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again (and, in fact, hope to for both inside remodeling and another deck project) or to recommend them to others. I also think the price was definitely fair and they earned their money, even doing a few extra things, and completely cleaned up at the end of the project. Our whole experience with them, from start to finish, could not have been better!"

"John was great to work with during our project. He was so professional and his prices were amazing. We had a flood in our kitchen and basement. John got the renovations done and our house looks amazing. We also decided to finish the entire floors in our house. John will be our general contractor from now on! Don’t hesitate to call him for a quote on your projects. You will not regret it!!"

"Excellent. This was a tricky repair because we had to use different brackets from the originals. Required lots of measuring and drilling. But result was perfect."

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

Yes, barn doors can be too heavy, although the limitation is usually imposed by the mounting hardware you buy and not your home’s framing, unless you’re building an unusually wide door. To keep the weight down, you can opt for 1-by material rather than 2-by material, and choose a softwood like pine rather than a hardwood like maple or oak. Check the weight limits on your mounting hardware, and always attach your door track to studs rather than to drywall anchors.

Building a tiny house is the least complicated way to build, especially if you’re tackling the project as a DIY. The smaller size means less complex plans, more straightforward utility installation, and fewer ways to make costly errors. Tiny homes still need to conform to building codes and often have other applicable regulations, so be sure to get the proper permits and confirm your build is by the book.

Whether pole barn posts should be set in concrete depends on the soil surrounding your home. If your soil is compact and digging conditions are agreeable, then setting pole barn posts in concrete is an ideal option.

You may need a local building permit and written permission from your homeowner’s association to install a shed, especially if you’re doing any substantial land clearing or installing electricity or plumbing. Permit requirements vary between municipalities, so research the local laws before starting your project. If you hire a contractor to build the shed, they can help determine which permits will be necessary.

The lifespan of a barn is typically 40 to 60 years, but with skillful construction and proper maintenance, it can last up to 100 years. The actual lifespan depends on several factors, including the barn type, materials, usage, and climate. For example, the posts of a pole barn should last 50 years or longer, but if the structure is used for livestock in a rainy climate, it may rot within the first decade. Custom designs with high-end materials tend to last the longest. To get the best estimate for your barn's lifespan, you should consider its material type and intended use.
