"This was our second project built by Backyard Construction. We had been so pleased with a 10x12' garden shed they built for us in 2012 that we had them build our art studio as well. Once again, they did an outstanding job. We could not be more pleased with both buildings. Their part of the studio project involved constructing the shell of the structure; my husband and I, our electrician and our painter then finished the interior We've used Backyard Construction because the quality of their buildings is excellent. After looking at dozens of other companies' offerings it was easy to see that Backyard used better materials and offered a higher level of workmanship yet was still very competitive pricewise. The studio is now one year old and the garden shed is two years old, and neither building has presented any problems whatsoever. Construction began on time and was completed right on schedule. "Contracted Richard on a Saturday afternoon, and he was on another job but came over at 7:30ish pm to go over the job and the scope of work needed. Our home has structural damage, that was beyond our ability which is why we called in a professional. Richard came, spent an hour with us going over details on how he would repair the damage. Richard was very friendly, went out of his way to come and appraise the job on short notice.
Now the problem: INSURANCE: During the discussion, he was asked if he had insurance, and he stated that he did, but did not have any worker's comp but would be willing to sign a hold harmless waiver. Based on this information, we scheduled the work to be done on Monday, May 9th, 2016. On the day he was to start the repairs, I asked him to provide a copy of his insurance. At this point, he stated he didn't have a copy, so I asked to verify with his insurance agent. He said he had to call, then called me back stating that his insurance didn't cover the scope of work we were contracting him to have done. He is according to him, insured to do painting but not spray painting, windows, and carpet. We cancelled the job and I felt this whole experience with him was a waste of not only his time but ours as well. The scope of his insurance should have been disclosed up front, prior to him agreeing to do the work.
"The toilet needed to be replaced. I was told that I would only get the builder standard grade toilet even though I was signed up with the highest plan. The plumber was replaced my toilet with something that was definitely builder grade and not even close to what I had. I called CHOICE and they told me that it should have been replaced with something comparable to what I had. Twice they told me they were going to have my claim looked at and I have not received a call about it or any new information. The new toilet is wrong in size and specs and doesn't fit well where it is in the bathroom."
