"STL Woodworking did a stellar job with my special order for a one-of-a-kind river wood table. I described what I had in mind in terms of wood, colors, and size, and the owner (Greg) crafted the most beautiful table made out of a beautiful piece of macacauba wood and paired with a gorgeous epoxy color and a perfect set of black metal table legs. Greg completed the project on schedule and delivered the piece himself. The table is stunning, so I rearranged my furniture to make it a centerpiece in my sitting area, and I use it daily as my desk working from home. It is truly a piece of functional art. I am so glad I went with STL Woodworking for this project."

"Attention to detail was top priority. He took the time to ensure that every aspect of the job was done to perfection. There is no one else that I would use for my staircase and stair needs. He will be doing my next set of stairs and I know that they will be a true masterpiece."

"Trevor and his team did a brilliant job with the renovations of the house that was not in good shape prior. He was communicative and available to chat at all times to provide updates. The attention to detail on all tasks is what impressed the most. He was flexing with his pricing and got the job done before estimated completion date. I would definitely use his services again."

"We hired Dallas to install french doors and did a great job. We also hired him to remove and replace our daughter's floor on her front porch with tile, and did demo and repair in her back deck, that included stepping stones, woodworking, painting, and hung lights, and did a very good job. He also built 8 pressure treated benches for us, asked for input for the 1st one, and completed the rest that were perfect for the use."

"From start to finish, Anthony and the crew from Edje transformed our home from top to bottom. What initially began as a major wallpaper instillation referral, quickly evolved into a creative collaboration. They were able to troubleshoot all of unexpected hurdles, often using out of the box thinking, but always careful to maintain safety and compliance. The talent, quality and craftsmanship of their work is so evident that they have completed work for too many referrals to count. We have now completed several, several projects with them and could not recommend them highly enough. Best of all, this incredibly creative crew is also nice to be around. As a woman who works from home and is often home alone, this is also another invaluable aspect of working with this exceptional team. They single handedly turned a house into our beautiful home!"

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

On average, the cost to hire a carpenter ranges from about $75 to $100 per hour, depending on the type of carpentry, location, size of the job, and skill level of the carpenter. Get quotes from at least three carpenters in your area to determine the best price for your specific project.

Wooden soffits, when properly cared for, can last between 10 and 25 years, depending on the type of wood and the climate you live in. Certain wood types will last longer than others, and you might want to consider the cost of replacing soffits when you break down the total project cost. While an initially higher-priced material might seem counterintuitive, it can make more financial sense if you don’t plan on moving.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface materials can be cut with standard woodworking tools, such as a circular saw or a jigsaw. However, it is crucial to use the correct type of blade to avoid damaging the material.

For a circular saw, a tungsten carbide-tipped blade is required; a triple chip grind blade is highly recommended. For a jigsaw, you should use a fine-tooth down-cutting blade. Do not use blades designed for cutting wood, as they can cause microfractures that weaken the edges of the countertop. A diamond blade is also unnecessary, as those are designed for harder materials like natural stone, which Corian is not.

After cutting, the edge will be rough. It is essential to sand and smooth the cut edge to prevent microfractures, which can eventually compromise the integrity of the countertop.
