"The entire process went very well.
John & the entire Moncrief staff went out of their way to accommodate our schedule, and the install only took one day.
Everyone at Moncrief was extremely professional, and the install crew did a remarkable job and even cleaned up after themselves.
This is a 'Rave Review'.

"Estes technician was very responsive, but we managed finally to clear the clog before he made it out. Didn't charge us even though he made the visit. Very professional, and understanding, not to mention how quickly they came out. Estes corporate called the next day to follow up. These guys are great! Definitely plan to use them again."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

If you have a sink stopper, it can feel more challenging to clean the drain without removing it, but here are a few simple steps:

  • Pour ½ cup baking soda into the drain using a funnel

  • Pour 1 ½ cups vinegar into the drain

  • Close the sink stopper for 15–20 minutes

  • Open the drain

  • Pour 2 cups of boiling water down the drain (be cautious as boiling water can damage some types of pipes)

If the drain isn’t unclogged, repeat the process.

If you try a drain snake and various DIY methods for unclogging drains to no avail, bring in a professional plumber to assess the situation. Also, if multiple drains in your home are backing up or you smell sewage, a visit from a plumber is best. You can expect your drain cleaning costs to fall around $250, and this can include an assessment of what’s caught in your plumbing and if there’s a larger, underlying problem. You should also consider calling a pro if you need to snake a toilet, as DIYing this could lead to a cracked fixture.

Yes, chemical drain cleaners contain sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid, both of which are not only dangerous to your health but also extremely caustic. Drain cleaners will corrode your pipes and could lead to destroyed drain lines, especially if the chemicals interact with the piping for long periods. Unfortunately, this extended interaction is likely if you’re dealing with a clog, as the drain cleaner will have just as much trouble as water does moving through your plumbing system.

It can take anywhere from half an hour to a few hours to fix a main line clog, depending on the cause and severity of it. The job should not take more than a day to complete. Keep in mind that the main line is not the same as your home’s sewer lines (which connect to the main line and run to your house). Your city is responsible for any clogs or damage to the main line itself.

There are several common signs that your main sewer line may be clogged. Key indicators include multiple fixtures in your home draining slowly, gurgling sounds coming from drains or toilets, and water backing up into showers, sinks, or toilets. You might also notice water backing up from the plumbing system's drain cleanout, water in your basement drain, or unexplained wet patches on your lawn. Foul odors, such as the smell of raw sewage or rotten eggs, are another common symptom. The most reliable way to confirm a main sewer line clog is to hire a professional plumber to perform a camera inspection.
