"the driveway looks nice, but the edge where it meets the street is not filled in properly. As a result, my car scrapes when we pull into the driveway, rendering it basically unusable. I have called, and texted several times, and left a few detailed messages asking them to come and look at it and see if there is something that they can do but they have not returned phone calls. My husband spoke to them once and they asked for photos, which he supplied, but since then they have not responded and it has been a couple of months. Considering that we paid them well over $3K for this work, and their lack of professionalism, I would not recommend them at all."

Tree roots don’t necessarily break through concrete on their own, but they can certainly take advantage of existing cracks, even very small ones. As roots grow, they expand the cracks, making them larger and leading to serious and costly foundation damage. It’s a good idea to have repairs on any foundation cracks you’re concerned about.

If your concrete steps have crumbled or chipped, you can fix them by removing any chips or flakes, cleaning and wetting the affected area, applying a concrete bonding agent, and finally applying new concrete, usually in the form of Portland cement. For widespread damage, you can consider concrete resurfacing instead. For fixing concrete spalling that has led to deep damage, you might need to remove damaged material, add structural supports, and pour new concrete into a mold.

The best way to determine if ceiling cracks are structural is to hire a ceiling contractor to inspect the cracks and provide a professional opinion. It’s usually not a big deal if your foundation sinks between 2 and 3 inches into the ground after construction, provided the settlement occurs evenly. This is usually indicative of normal settlement that occurs as the soil under your home adapts to the weight of the structure. If the home sinks more into the ground or the settlement occurs unevenly, leaving portions of your home to sink further down than others, then call a foundation repair specialist to address the issue and avoid additional damage.
