"I had horrible popcorn ceilings on plaster. Corey did a great job removing the popcorn and replastering my coved ceilings making sure to keep the original character. The work was done on time and on budget and he cleaned up after the work was completed. I am very pleased."

"I remodeled my bathroom. Removed a built in tub shower and a wall and installed a free standing tub. Also removed a can light and installed two sconces. I installed the Sheetrock and had Mr. Ramirez finish the drywall and make my stippled ceiling smooth. The job was phenomenal. You cannot tell in any way where the patches were. Price was more than fair for the number of hours involved, he cleaned everything up nicely, and worked on my schedule. HIGHLY RECOMMEND"

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

The tool you use to sand plaster will depend on the size of the project. If you’re just working on a small section of your wall to get rid of an uneven spot on the surface, hand-sanding might work. However, for larger projects, a drywall sander can make a huge difference when it comes to both time and elbow grease—and an orbital sander can help for detailed areas such as around ceiling fans.

Your walls are likely cracking due to fluctuations in the temperature outside. Drywall tends to expand and contract when temperatures and humidity levels change, and this repeated movement can lead to cracks in your walls, particularly around door frames. If you have multiple diagonal cracks, you may want to have your foundation inspected, as cracks can also be a sign of a bigger issue.

If the holes in the plaster are small, you can fill them with layers of patching plaster until they’re filled. After it dries, you can sand the plaster and paint over it. If the hole is much larger, consider using bonding plaster first and then a layer of patching plaster, completing the process with sanding and a layer of paint.

Although they are used for similar tasks, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum and is primarily used for large-scale projects like taping and finishing seams on new drywall. Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it a thicker compound best suited for small wall repairs like filling nail holes or cracks, as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. For small repairs, either product can be suitable. However, you can use joint compound for small jobs in place of spackle, but you cannot use spackle for large-scale taping and mudding projects.

It may take a bit of patience and trial and error to match your particular drywall texture type when making repairs. For orange peel or knockdown finishes, use a spray texture product or a thinned joint compound applied with a roller or sponge. Practice on scrap drywall or cardboard first. Once dry, lightly sand and prime before painting.
