"Awesome Job and very Professional. I had a previous pond builder do a terrible job even installed a used pump(no warranty). John came out and tried to repair my pump and but had to replace it with a new one after the clean out. He did such a great job they even found fish hiding I thought were dead and gone. My pond looks amazing once again and the fish are much happier. Thanks patriotic ponds. See you soon."

"Work Quality & Customer Service: very Responsive, creative/innovative, flexible, trustworthy, timely, etc. Had to work around two rain days and then allow ground to harden for backhoe work. Had narrow timeline due to our travel plans. Small lot in gated community. At outset, it was difficult to envision 'likely outcome' by talking and pointing. My wife 'knew' what she wanted ... managed to make some adjustments during the actual work process. This was a 30% expansion of existing water lily pond and adding two waterfall/streambed flows. The outcome exceeding our expectations. We sent around facebook fotos and have received numerous compliments. Ran into a snag with electrical wiring and was able to pull in a licensed electrician to solve on a weekend. Ran into some rock and had to work around it Value for Money: don't have valid comparison, so backed down the top rating very slightly. We highly recommend Dennis and his team."

"Bill called me almost immediately, and even though he was considerably distant from my house, he was still willing to make the long drive to get my sprinkler system repaired. Would definitely recommend based on customer service level I received."

Fountains questions, answered by experts

The average pond maintenance cost is $2,000. But how much you pay to take care of your pond depends on multiple factors, such as the size of the pond and whether fish live in it. Your area's climate also affects the overall maintenance cost, as you may need to winterize your pond to protect it and any aquatic life in it during the colder months.

While they’re popular and have a lot of pros, the cons of river rocks include the following:

  • River rocks don’t break down or provide nutrients to plants.

  • These stones can get hot and scorch nearby plants.

  • River stones may heat the surrounding soil to inhospitable temperatures.

  • Rocks can block rainwater from seeping into the ground if installations are too thick or tightly packed.

Most downsides occur when using river rock as mulch in gardens and flower beds. However, you can still incorporate river rocks into your landscape as long as you use them in the correct ways.

How many fish can call your pond home depends on the volume of the pond and the fish size. Your pond's filtration system also influences the number of fish that will thrive in a pond. A general rule of thumb is to have 1 inch of fish for every square foot in a pond that's 2 feet deep. Another rule of thumb you can follow is to have one koi fish for every 200 gallons of water or two goldfish for every 200 gallons.

One reason you may want to fill in your pond is the cost of maintenance. Pond cleaning may cost about $1,000 for an annual cleanup, or monthly visits may cost $75 to $100 per visit. If you don’t want to spend that much per year on pond upkeep, you may consider filling in your pond.

After you fill in your pool, you can add trees and plants that help stabilize the soil. You might decide not to fill it in at all and find another use for the sunken area instead. A few ideas include creating a seating area or garden inside the empty pool. Depending on its size, you could create a place to roller-skate or install basketball hoops for an unconventional court.
