"I experienced the utmost in professionalism and creativity! They were very responsive to what I envisioned for my place and gave me assistance and support throughout the whole process, including advice when needed. The Peaches and Cream team made themselves available whenever needed and provided needed reassurance when I waffled on some of my decisions. "I got a deal from Berger about their table pad and just in time for my new dining room set. I didn't have time to set the template due to a new baby in the house. A few months later, they still honored my deal! WOW! I sent it in and they made the pad pretty quick. Shipping was fine and the fit was excellent. I would recommend them to anyone! Truly a good company to work with. A++"

Interior Design and Decorating questions, answered by experts

On average, the cost to hire an interior designer or decorator is approximately $8,200. However, the total price can range widely from $200 for a simple consultation to $65,000 for a comprehensive whole-home design project. Most residential designers charge an hourly rate, typically between $50 and $200 per hour, though this can increase to $500 per hour in high-demand areas.

Several factors influence the final cost, including the size of your home, your location, the quality of decor, and the scope of services required. The price will be higher if services include not just consultation but also implementation, material purchasing, home staging, or digital design mock-ups. It's important to note that these cost estimates generally cover the designer's service fees and do not include the price of materials, furniture, or decor, which can be a significant additional expense.

British architect John Nash is credited with creating the Italianate style of architecture. The style was further popularized in the U.S. by landscape architect Andrew Jackson Downing and architect Calvert Vaux. The style spread across the U.S. due to Downing’s popular book on the style and the availability of plans and materials due to the mass production of the Industrial Revolution.

Before hiring an interior designer, ask a few questions to better understand how they work, what’s expected of you, and what they promise to deliver.

  • How long will the project take to complete?

  • What type of services do you offer?

  • Can you provide a project estimate?

  • Do you work with subcontractors?

  • Are you licensed or certified in this state?

  • Do you have a portfolio of previous work I can review?

  • May I contact your customer references?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • How do you handle payment?

Yes, many providers offer design consultations to help optimize and maximize space, functionality, and usage. It is recommended to confirm the availability of this service with your specific installer or contractor.

Designing a building takes 2-6 months, depending on project size, required permits, and revisions.
