"Radon mitigation. Had 100+ radon reading and Ramone came out and installed a mitigation system with three ducts to reduce the radon level. Good quality at a fair price. Highly recommend!"

"Its been over a year now since having our system installed by Southern Radon. Previous owner of our home had a system placed before our closing using another company but our numbers remained high. After reading the good reviews on Angies list, decided to call Southern Radon and ask for help. Matt visited with us, brought his detector, was able to target a few hot spots and we worked from there as far as how the system should be set up. Matt was awesome, has an amazing amt of knowlege about radon, asked all the right questions and seemed to be able to easily assess our needs. Over this year we have had many contractors visit, assess and make repairs...Matt stands out above them all. Our system works well and we have had very low readings which are a great relief ....The team that was sent to us to do the work I would rate B...a little sloppy ....didn't cover nearby area to protect or prevent a mess, as i remember some debris shooting out ...onto floor and walls and storage...would have been better if they were proactive and covered the areas that could possibly be affected...."

"The customer service representatives I spoke to and the service men that came out to install the pump were all polite. The job was taken care of properly and all seems to be in working order. We are just waiting on the results of the post installation radon test to be 100% sure the radon was taken care of."

"The owner is knowledgeable, but seems to be stretched thin. Interacted with 4 different people over the course of the project, which caused information to be communicated very slowly. Was pricey for the work done, and I had to reach out a few times to ask for an explanation for the work. They used gorilla tape and caulk on a vapor barrier and charged me $500 for 1.5 hours of work and an additional $150 for a radon test (which I requested because I was unsure about the work on the vapor barrier). Had a problem with one of the employees who contacted me, and the owner made arrangements for me to work with someone else that I was more comfortable with, which I appreciated."

"William was a kind, knowledgeable professional with a lot of experience and who paid attention to the details of our particular space. He gave some solid advise during his visit and delivered a detailed report of his findings after running the tests. I definitely recommend him and would call him again if ever I needed any other testing done. Also, did I mention he arrived at our house within one hour after I contacted Angie's List?"

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

The natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water can cause radon to appear in a home. The gas seeps into homes through cracks in foundations, walls, or floors, as well as through gaps around pipes or construction joints. Radon levels are influenced by soil composition, building materials, and ventilation. Poorly sealed or airtight homes can trap radon, allowing it to accumulate.

Use a radon test kit or hire professionals to conduct a detailed assessment of radon levels in your home.

Testing every 2-5 years or upon adjusting occupancy or structural changes maintains safe environments.

The fan that pulls the radon out of the air needs to run continuously, so you may see an increase in your electric bill once you install the mitigation system. Additionally, you may see an increase in your heating or cooling bills, as the fan can cause some loss of hot or cool air.

The average radon mitigation system uses about 876 kWh of electricity per year, although the exact amount of electricity used will vary depending on the size of the radon fan. Once the system is installed, the annual increase to your energy bill could range from $30 to $300 per year, again depending on the size of the fan.
