"Panning for gold is popular in the North Georgia mountains. After sifting through some other landscaping companies in the area, we finally "found the gold" here in Cleveland with Rooted Landscape Management! Sam and Jakob did an excellent job of completely transforming our yard! They worked hard clearing, grading, and installing three beautiful toccoa Belgard block retaining walls with steps and rails, a gravel driveway/parking area, and wooden fencing for our project. They were very punctual and communicative throughout every phase of the work. We appreciate so much their precision and care for detail! They were very friendly and extremely professional! We added beautiful accent lighting to the walls from Wayne's Outdoor Lighting. We've already received numerous compliments on our project, and we couldn't be more pleased with our "new yard"! If you're looking for quality, professionalism, and value, end your search and "go for the gold" with Rooted Landscape Management!"

"Hershberger Gates did a great job adding a Ghost Control system to my driveway gates. I had an old system that failed and had lived with manually opening and closing the gates. I was hesitant to give the job to Hershberger because I was a bit out of his physical jurisdiction, but Spencer persuaded me that he was the right guy for the job and said he’d have no problem servicing me if I had an issue (although he said the Ghost System is very reliable). Spencer said he’d be at my place at 6:30 am…I thought he was joking…he wasn’t…and he was right on time. The system operates great… very substantial….the remotes are fantastic and the Ghost app on my iphone is even better. He thought he’d be here for 6-7 hours and he was done in approximately 4. Great honest guys! I’m a very happy customer in Asheville, NC."

"Excellent! They were timely, professional and very easy to communicate with me on the project. Price paid was very reasonable for the extensive labor needed to fix my brick steps and mortar. completed the project ahead of schedule. I definitely would hire them again and recommend this company. I would be happy to provide before and after pictures."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

By grading and compacting the base soil, ensuring proper drainage and stability.

Professionals ensure a solid base and smooth finish, enhancing durability and appearance.

Wet cutting is usually the preferred method. It controls dust, which helps protect your lungs and makes for a cleaner working environment. Plus, the water cools the blade, preventing overheating and prolonging its life while providing smoother, more precise cuts. The downside is the mess—water and asphalt sludge can be messy to clean. Dry cutting, though convenient if water isn’t available, creates a lot of dust, which can be harmful. This also increases the risk of blade damage due to overheating. So, if you have the option, wet cutting is the better method for most asphalt jobs.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.

The answer to whether or not you need to get a permit before you start your driveway can vary widely based on local ordinances and the scope of your driveway ideas. In most urban and suburban areas, a permit is needed before building a new driveway to ensure that a homeowner is using safe materials and proper drainage practices while designing and constructing a new driveway. In some rural areas, a homeowner may not be required to apply for a permit. When building a new driveway on your own, always check with your local building department to see if you need to request a permit. When hiring a driveway contractor, verify that the right permits are being used before driveway construction begins.
