"Dana Knight came to my home and did all the above work. He was very polite, knowledgeable of what he was doing and performed the work well and at a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend him for any Locksmith job that I may have in the future and recommend him to all my friends. Great job, Dana."

"I used Home Advisor on July 2, late in the evening. I was contacted the next morning by Hall's Lock and Key and an appointment was made to have the house locks rekeyed on July 3. Unfortunately, there were bad storms in the area that day. With the next day being the 4th of July, I was afraid I was going to have to wait to get this project done; however, Shane called and offered to come out the morning of the 4th. The work was done within 45 minutes. Shane did a great job. He is fair, honest, friendly, and knowledgeable. He is in the business to get lifelong customers. If you need a reliable locksmith, call Hall's Lock and Key."

"Choice responded quickly but the insurance plan does not pay for all doors to be re-keyed unless you have very few locks. The number of locks covered by the insurance is determined by keyholes, not doors! (Read your policy!) You will likely have to shell out some money to have this essential new-home service if you have more than four keyholes. The locksmith they called was EXCELLENT and made all our locks completely functional. We will happily hire the locksmith again (R.L Locksmith LLC). We paid $201.81 (plus another $50 for some door re-alignment not included in the re-keying benefit) and Choice paid $100 for the job."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

There is a reason many commercial garages and storage facilities have roller garage doors. They stand out as one of the most secure options due to their unique design. The compact installation and absence of visible leverage points on the sturdy aluminum curtain make them a formidable obstacle for potential intruders.

Deadbolts are solid and durable as can be, but the pin and tumbler can still be forced open, thus making this type of lock susceptible to picking. Most types of deadbolts are harder to pick than a traditional spring-based lock, though. It requires a specialized lock pick and a tension wrench to align all of the pins, thus unlocking the door.

Over time, latch components may wear out or get grimy, leading to this problem. First, check for dirt, dust, or debris in the latch mechanism to ensure smooth operation. Use an aerosol duster and lubricant to clean and loosen. You may also need to tighten the screws in the component, adjust the strike plate, or replace the lock. If none of these steps resolve the problem, consult a professional locksmith.

Find a vetted and trusted locksmith to work on your home so you can feel comfortable and safe. Hire a professional with these qualifications:

  • Search a verified directory of locksmiths near you, like those on Angi.

  • Check for an Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) logo on their website or company logo.

  • Read company reviews. You can also check their social media pages.

  • Ask for a pro’s credentials, insurance, licensure, and customer testimonials.

  • Check if the locksmith is knowledgeable about various topics, from decorative locks to the newest technologies on the market.

Any type of dead bolt lock provides the highest level of safety for a single device. However, it’s also important to determine a lock's grade. Locks can come in either Grade 1, Grade 2, or Grade 3, which indicates how durable it is and if it’s constructed solidly. Safety experts recommend choosing locks based on Grade 1, which offers the highest level of durability.
