"I previously hired a handyman to install a new water heater as well as carry out some punchout work for a house I am selling. He caused an accident while installing the water heater which lead to water spilling from the bathroom upstairs into the first floor ceiling, damaging the ceiling and he didn't install the water heater properly and to make it worse, he took off and didn't return my phone calls. I went on Home Advisor to request bids, and got a call from Guice Services. They came out the very same day they called (John came out). He was very professional, diagnosed the problem while educating me, performed a quality 25 point inspection, corrected the fittings that were not properly installed on the water heater by the handyman, as well as made recommendations. He also tested all fixtures 3 times to make sure there were no issues. Lastly, he made sure to clean up behind him as they had to cut out the ceiling. I am DEFINITELY going to be using Guice Services again for all my other properties and would recommend them as well. Their rates are also competitive and reasonable. Guice Services saved the day! Thank you John!!"

"Excellent! Every step in the process went very smoothly. I was even able to change plans half-way through. After seeing how gorgeous the walk in shower was, I asked if the bathroom walls could be tiled partway up. Florin was able to do it and make it look like that was the original plan. Also I now enjoy going in the laundry room whereas it used to be depressing just to walk in it. It's been almost 4 years since the work was done and I'm still loving it."

"Outstanding Service from Greenlee Plumbing! Joni was fantastic—she got our appointment scheduled quickly and kept us updated every step of the way. Billy was phenomenal! He replaced our mainline pressure valve efficiently and made sure everything was working perfectly before he left. He even had us test all the faucets to confirm steady water flow and pressure. Excellent service, knowledgeable team, and truly professional from start to finish. Highly recommend Greenlee Plumbing!"

Percolation Tests questions, answered by experts

Even a single, one-time exposure to asbestos can be harmful and pose health risks. According to the EPA, any contact can increase the risk of developing asbestos-related diseases and certain types of cancer, although the likelihood of severe health issues increases with repeated or prolonged exposure.

The severity of a single exposure depends on factors like the duration, intensity, and concentration of the asbestos fibers. While a small amount is less likely to cause significant damage, a high concentration can lead to serious long-term lung damage. Individual reactions vary, and asbestos-related illnesses may not appear for 10 to 40 years after inhalation.

Given these risks, always take precautions around any material suspected to contain asbestos. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may not be completely effective. If you suspect asbestos is in your home, hire a professional for testing and removal. If you are worried about a potential exposure, consult your doctor.

Since the EPA partially banned asbestos in 1989, it is no longer used to manufacture new siding in the United States; production had largely ceased by the early 1980s. Many other countries, such as Canada, Iceland, and Denmark, also have bans on asbestos. However, asbestos siding is still present in many homes built before the late 1980s. The only definitive way to know if your siding contains asbestos is to have it professionally lab-tested.

While asbestos can’t be directly absorbed through the skin—the fibers are too big—skin contact can still produce symptoms. Contact dermatitis can flare up in sensitive individuals but in most cases, the danger from asbestos comes from inhaling the fibers, or dust, that is produced when asbestos is disturbed. If you touch asbestos by accident, immediately wash yourself and your clothes.

If you own a stereo microscope, you should be able to see the fibers. The stereo microscope often can perform magnification up to 50x. But unless you have experience viewing asbestos fibers, you may not know exactly what you are seeing. Some fibers are curly, while others are long and straight. Blue, brown, white, and gray colored fibers are all possible.

Asbestos was most commonly produced and integrated into building products from the 1920s to the late 1980s. In reality, asbestos use should have ceased much sooner because asbestos was linked to cancer in studies produced as early as the 1950s. You can even extend that number past the 1980s due to stockpiled materials and because some countries treat asbestos use differently. It may also be found more in commercial applications than residential.
