"They solved the problem. My grass had died and seed wasn't growing. I assumed it was shade as neighbor's tress now shaded most of my yard. But the cause was water runoff damage. They put in French drains and higher-level sod. It is now doing well, and we are well please. I would recommend Augusta Design for their excellent work but most of all for their expertise."

"J & R Home Solutions responded immediately after I found them on Angi. They replaced warped boards on my deck and did excellent work. I was impressed enough that I’m already planning to hire them for future landscaping. Highly recommend!"

"Very professional and went beyond what was asked of them. Hired these guys to grade/harley rake my back yard and clean up some debris so I could put down sod. These guy got everything done in about 2 days and worked with me during the grading process to make sure the slope and level areas were exactly what I wanted. They were very clean and even swept the road from the debris being loaded into the dumpster. I was very happy with these guys and assumed they were done so I paid them and they came back to do more cleanup just to make sure everything was perfect. I would use these guys again"

"Ideal Landscapes has been one of the most impressive companies I have ever hired. I met with about ten different companies before selecting this company. It was a pretty large project and I’m a pretty picky person, so I wanted to be sure that I was getting the best quality at a fair price. They did a FANTASTIC job! They built a pretty large double tier retaining wall in a steep slope, leveled the top part of the yard to make it usable, graded the entire backyard, brought in sod, ran irrigation, filled the beds with soil for my garden, and pinestrawed a very large area. I was impressed with their attention to detail, their professionalism, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, their communication. The owner went above and beyond to answer every question and thoroughly communicate every step of the way. He also offered several recommendations mid-project that I’m glad he brought up because they really added to the final appearance and functionality. I recommend Ideal Landscapes 100%"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Hedges can be trimmed in many other shapes than the standard square shape. They can be cut into spiral, cone, and sphere shapes. However, cutting and maintaining these types of shapes is much more challenging. There are metal frames that you can purchase to place around the hedge to make it much easier.

Don’t worry if there’s a gap between cutting and planting an ideal branch. You can still cut the perfect branch when you see it. If you can’t get it in a pot or water right away, put it in a zip-top bag in the refrigerator. When you’re ready to finish the process, make a fresh cut.

While both fall and spring are suitable times of the year for planting trees, fall is typically the better option. Soil stays warm long enough to allow tree roots to establish in fall before they go dormant, while spring might give way to intense summer heat before spring-planted trees have time to grow strong roots.

It is possible to DIY complete hardscaping projects, but in most cases, hiring a professional is best to get the job done correctly. Hardscaping—including installing patios, decks, retaining walls, walkways, and water features—is challenging and time-consuming, so the money you spend on a professional is typically worth it. Not only will the quality be better, but you could avoid problems that come along with a lack of hardscaping experience, like drainage issues that can lead to costly foundation damage and leaks in your home.

There are two main times of year to apply mulch: mid to late spring and late fall. Spreading mulch in mid to late spring helps protect new seedlings as the soil warms up. It's best to wait until temperatures are steady, as mulching too early in the spring can slow down the soil's warming process and hinder plant growth. Fall mulching is also beneficial, as it insulates the soil and helps regulate its temperature when the first frosts arrive.
