To get water out of AC vents, first identify the source of the water. Check other air vents in your home for signs of moisture. If you can’t find any, look around the room for anything that might have seeped water in like an overwatered plant or a spill. The EPA has shown no noticeable health benefits to cleaning your ducts regularly, so as long as you don’t encounter any major problems and maintain your HVAC system, you won’t need to clean your air ducts.

Vents may blow air even though the air conditioning system is off because of the pressure difference between indoor and outdoor air or drafts from leaky ducts. Check for leaks or drafts in the ductwork or around windows and doors.

Return air vents should be cleaned at least every two to five years. However, they should be cleaned immediately if you notice debris forming on them, mold growth in the ductwork, signs of pest infestation, or noticeably more dust on your furniture.
