Customers say: Quality work

"I appreciate, very much, the thoroughness Home Advisor has done with the excellent choices I had to choose from in my search for repair of an asphalt Shingle Roofing repair job. Jerry of Ocean Roofing, Inc. worked hard just to get this project to be a repair and not replacement. Jerry kept in touch and informed me regularly of progress and i was very happy over all with dealing and working with this company. responds quickly, excellent price, w"

"Excellent! From the estimate process through the final walk around, ever person I was in contact with were professional, timely, and clearly knew what they were doing. Roof looks great, clean up was great and at completion, I pointed out a couple of minor items which they resolved on the spot. I even noticed a small tear in a window screen after they left, they had a screen repair guy at my house the same day. Not the cheapest out there (I got three quotes), but you get what you pay for (including a 15 year warranty which no one else came close to). Cost included replacement of 2 skylights, which we are thrilled with. Highly recommend them."

"Project: Reroof; 39sq hip roof + 2X4 skylight. Outstanding job! From start to finish. A to Z Roofing was 150% customer oriented, bent over backwards to meet my needs. (which, sorry to say, I've not encountered with other service companies since moving to Florida). 200% completely SATISFIED!"

"Coastal Roof Solutions is extremely professional, punctual, knowledgeable and trustworthy. It’s been wonderful working with Coastal. I’m going to have them do maintenance regularly to make sure we stay in good shape. I never thought about that before but it makes perfect sense to have them identify little issues and fix them before they become big problems. Coastal was a great find."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Yes, solar tubes are easier to install than skylights because they’re lighter, smaller, and easier to handle. They also require less roof cutting and have a faster, simpler installation process. This means they’re a more DIY-friendly option for homeowners who want to add more natural light to their homes.

The most popular treatment for a skylight is skylight shades. There are five primary types: manual, motorized, blackout, cellular//honeycomb, and Venetian. Motorized skylight shades are the most convenient, especially for skylights that are higher up, but manual shades are the most cost-effective treatments. Cellular/honeycomb shades are a perfect option for anyone who wants energy efficiency and an attractive look.

In most cases, installing skylights will add value to your home, making them a worthwhile investment for many homeowners. Buyers are often attracted to the aesthetic appeal of skylights, as they make rooms feel brighter, airier, and more spacious by introducing natural light without compromising privacy. Beyond aesthetics, skylights can offer monetary benefits by potentially reducing energy bills. Additionally, models that can be opened provide extra ventilation, which is particularly useful in hotter climates for allowing accumulated hot air to escape from the ceiling. However, the return on investment depends on several factors. To maximize value, it's crucial that the skylights are installed by an experienced professional to avoid risks like water damage, which can deter savvy buyers. Regular maintenance and cleaning are also important. Furthermore, choosing the right frame and glazing materials for your specific climate will enhance their performance and appeal. While skylights are generally seen as an asset, homeowners should also consider the initial cost, which averages around $1,500 for installation.

Yes, solar tubes work during the winter as long as it’s light outside and they aren’t covered by snow. Sun tunnels are made to work year-round to bring in natural light, and some people find them even more beneficial during the winter. With less daylight outside, it can be even more important to bring brightness into homes to reduce electricity costs.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.
