Customers say: Quick response

"Hired David Graf to repair a rotten beam on our patio, replace stucco/drywall around it, and redo the second floor balcony decking with new hand railings. Not only David provided us with the most competitive estimate, he realized some material savings during the process which ended up saving about 10% at the end. Quality exceeded our expectations. He is a man of his word - definitely would hire him again! Thanks David!"

"Ed and Amy did interior painting for us last year and we were very pleased. We did not hesitate to call them to give us an estimate to repaint the exterior or our house. They promptly came in February and provided us with a realistic estimate and their schedule was open for April. That worked for us and we agreed to go ahead with them. On day one they pressure treated all the sides of the house. Day two was the prep work of covering windows, etc. Painting started in Wednesday and finished up on Friday including the painting of our front and very large back lanai. Ed and Amy did an excellent job and we are very pleased."

"When I posted my request to Angi, I promptly received an email from New Life Handyman Services (Joe Tragulia) stating that he was interested in doing the work for me. I replied back to him and then he followed up by calling me and asking if I would send him pictures of the needed repair and I did. Within minutes, he called me saying he was confident he could do the repair and informed me of his pricing structure. We scheduled a time for him to come to my house and was on time as he stated. He looked at the job and explained what we was going to do and I agreed. He took a trip to Home Depot and purchased what he needed (he gave me the receipt) and then made the repair. I watched him work and it was obvious he knew what he was doing. In short order, he finished, cleaned the area all in 2 hours. The price was totally unexpected, because the other contractors didn't want to do such a small repair or told me it was a difficult area to access the location on a 2nd floor dormer and would either need to build scaffolding and or tie-off with harnesses, which would have been very costly. Joe and his partner were confident and needed neither of that and had no problem reaching it. What could easily have cost me thousands from other contractors that I feel were going to gouge me, Joe did it for hundreds. He is an absolute Professional along with a very pleasant demeanor, along with very very reasonable pricing. Both my wife and I agreed we chose the right contractor to to the work for us and made us feel very comfortable that he was honest and did a fabulous job. I highly recommend New Life Handyman Services for all your handyman repair needs."

"My husband and I are absolutely thrilled with the work performed by this company! Their workmanship is excellent and their work and materials were reasonably priced. We had a significant amount of deck/patio to cover and the work was started and completed on time. The installers were very professional and cleaned up after the work was completed. We thought Jaydel and his crew were great. We enjoyed working with Ira, the owner of the company. He is very knowledgeable and was terrific at pointing out the important aspects of installing pavers. His company offered a huge selection of materials from which to choose. We would definitely hire this company again and highly recommend their work."

"Project took a little longer than expected but the crews were working during the hottest weeks of the year. Met or exceeded expectations. The few issues with minor aesthetics were discussed with the crew and solutions they suggested worked out well and look good. Dennis was very knowledgeable and approachable. Could easily contact him via text to go over any issues. Overall good work. Would recommend to friends and family and definitely consider for any future home improvements"

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

In many areas, a floating deck that isn’t connected to your home and stays under 200 square feet and below 30 inches in height may not need a permit. These freestanding structures are often considered low-risk, which can simplify the building process. However, building codes vary greatly based on location. Before investing in any home improvement project, check with your local permitting office for deck-building guidelines.

Whether you need a permit depends on the deck design and local regulations. Most areas mandate a building permit if the deck is over a specific height or if it's attached to a pre-existing structure. Shorter, freestanding decks may not require a permit, but you should check with local zoning ordinances and your homeowners association for specifics.

Pavers are a great decking option for pools. They’re customizable, come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, textures, materials, and price points, and they’re slip-resistant. Concrete pool decks, on the other hand, are harder to repair and replace if damaged and aren’t as slip-resistant as most paver materials. However, not all pavers are equal in terms of durability, maintenance, and performance. Pavers also have their own cons that may encourage homeowners to opt for stamped concrete instead, such as higher upfront costs.

Building a deck is often worth the investment, not only because it provides more utility to your yard and gives you more space to entertain but also because decks tend to add value to your home. Keep in mind that second-story decks often require concrete footings, which means they will bump up your property taxes, while decks built on the first story generally don’t require a permanent foundation and won’t affect your taxes. Even with the tax increase, decks are usually a good investment in the long run.

It is possible to build your own deck, but it’s typically better to leave the work to a decking professional. Decks can be exceptionally complicated, especially if you want a wrap-around or second-story deck, and you don’t want to risk making an expensive or dangerous mistake. It’s usually better to hire a decking pro who can pull permits and build a structurally sound deck that will last for decades and provide the maximum return on investment.
