"Jameson went over several alternative approaches with us. He bought and delivered all the materials necessary. He scheduled the job quickly and was at the site on time. Jameson worked expertly and made significant progress each day. His estimate on the time necessary to complete the job was spot on. We were both impressed with Jameson's craftsmanship. He cleaned up the project area beautifully. We are thrilled with our newly repaired deck.We hired him immediately for our next job."

"Five star painting was awesome. Michael and team were so polite and professional at our home. They did a great job and some extra work to power wash the deck. We highly recommend Five Star Paintaing and are looking forward to our next home project (re-shingling house) with Mike."

"Neeko called me back quickly after looking for a wallpaper installer on a time crunch with a quick install. He came out the day he called and within a week we had our wallpaper installed and ready to go before the parade of homes! I will continue to use him in my design business!"

"The gentleman who repaired my screens was pleasant, efficient and timely. He also inspected all of the screens in both my front and rear lanais making sure they weren't in need of repair and matched the replacement materials with the existing screens. I feel the price of the services provided was fair."

"Wonderful! There was a build up of green mold and moss on screens. The pool deck had years of ground in dirt. All was cleaned to perfection leaving even the deck ready to repaint. Very reasonably priced and very professional."

"Fast estimate - very FAIR price - EXCELLENT job done! Come on time, work through everything, inform you, answers your questions and make sure that you are getting EXACTLY what you have asked. Tom and his son Dylan have done the work: power washed, painted/sealed. Even go beyond... cleaned everything after work done, moved back all the furniture around the pool deck. You will be very happy! Tom has done this for over 20 years and it shows! He knows his trade and he as well as his son did an awesome job. I am very picky and a perfectionist. And I LOVE what they've done! We would highly recommend them to anyone who needs their pool deck done (or redone). We have a large pool deck and we had them do the entrance as well as the driveway."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

You can use a few different tactics to prevent your deck gate from sagging. Aside from using strong, rot-resistant woods, introducing a diagonal element—such as a tension rod or solid piece of wood to act as a brace—across the gate will offer better support. You can also use rigid joists to prevent the gate from sagging.

Footings for ground-level decks need to be at least 12 inches deep, and some areas require them to be even deeper. A standard range for deck footings is anywhere from 12 to 48 inches. The minimum footing depth is determined by an area’s frost line and soil conditions. If you’re unsure how deep to install deck footings, check local building codes to find the minimum footing depth in your area.

A quality, well-maintained PVC decking can last 30 to 50 years. It’s known for being one of the most durable types of decking materials, with composite decking having a 25- to 30-year average lifespan and some softwood deckings only lasting 10 to 15 years. Luxury hardwood decks like Ipe may last longer than PVC decking, but they can cost more and require more maintenance.

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro.

No. In most cases, it’s not colder or freezing temperatures that affect decking materials but the amount of moisture that seeps into the materials as a result. For example, wood decking material is more likely to suffer from rot or decay when exposed to excess moisture from snow or ice. An extreme change in temperature can cause wood to expand or contract, but only if it’s not properly treated beforehand.
