"Element Repair and Remodeling is a excellent company . His work is perfection. The carport was so great, that we hired him to fix our insulated door and our railings at both doors, that were destroyed during hurricane Ian. I would hire Element Repair and Remodeling again for any large or small projects. Reasonable prices and very honest and reputable."

"James gave a free estimate for patching the roof where several roof vents were no longer in use. The work was performed the following day and it looks great. Another contractor just wanted to sell us a new roof which was clearly over repair. We also got an estimate for sealing a section of flat roof and ended up getting that work done as well. The crew was on time and efficient for both jobs. I would highly recommend them to family, friends, and others looking for roof repair."

"Jameson went over several alternative approaches with us. He bought and delivered all the materials necessary. He scheduled the job quickly and was at the site on time. Jameson worked expertly and made significant progress each day. His estimate on the time necessary to complete the job was spot on. We were both impressed with Jameson's craftsmanship. He cleaned up the project area beautifully. We are thrilled with our newly repaired deck.We hired him immediately for our next job."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Composite decking requires a solid foundation, substructure, or subframe to ensure stability. This base is typically composed of posts, beams, joists, and footings. The frame's joists can be built from various materials like composite, plastic, timber, or metal, as long as the base can support the deck's weight without shifting. A professional deck builder might recommend installing the frame on a solid concrete base for added durability. The final design and materials for the substructure will depend on your budget, the type of deck, and environmental conditions.

It’s important to make sure the wood on a new deck is properly seasoned. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.

Choosing whether your deck should be lighter or darker than your house is a matter of personal preference, as there is no right or wrong answer. However, considering the pros and cons of each can help guide your decision. Darker colors are often chosen because they show less dirt, footprints, and marks from daily wear, making them easier to keep clean. On the other hand, lighter deck colors tend to stay cooler in the summer. From a design perspective, using a deck color that contrasts with your home's exterior can help make the deck a more defined and distinct feature. Consulting color theory can also make the process of choosing a complementary house and deck color combination easier.

Yes, you can attach a deck to a mobile home, but it’s important that the work be done correctly to avoid the potential for major damage to your home. Many building codes require that any additions to mobile homes—including decks—be either freestanding or have their own support structures. Getting permits may require submitting the home's original floor plan, the proposed floor plan, framing details, and more.

Pressure-treated lumber is one of the most affordable types of decking upfront. This material is widely available, so you can usually find pressure-treated lumber at almost any local home improvement store you visit. Keep in mind that wood requires a lot of upkeep with repainting and restaining, so any kind of wood may be more expensive in the long run than something like PVC decking.
