"The installer Anthony was Very Polite, cleaned the driveway off before sealing. Pulled a few weeds that were coming up through driveway and put a seamless coating down. Cleaned up everything and did a great job."

Customers say: True professional

"Paul called within 2 hours of my post on Angi. He came out about 1/2 hour later and reviewed the work I needed done. He was friendly, professional, and explained what he would do and how it would be done. I got two estimates about 5 or 6 years ago and Paul’s was just a couple of hundred dollars higher. In addition, he proposed to hot tar the cracks in my existing driveway and seal coat the entire 1200 square foot driveway, which was not proposed previously. It was a no-brained. The work was completed promptly to my complete satisfaction. If you’re reading this post you should give them a call."

"I had a really good experience with Hometown Contractors. Jordan was honest, professional, and actually took the time to explain everything in a way that made sense. I appreciated that he wasn?t trying to upsell me or push work that didn?t need to be done. The whole process felt straightforward and stress-free, and the quality of the work came out great. You can tell they actually care about doing the job the right way. I?d definitely recommend them and would use them again"

Driveway Sealcoating questions, answered by experts

Like all driveway materials, asphalt can crack in the wrong conditions and with age. Many things can cause asphalt to crack, including shifting soil or settling under the foundation. Other common causes are driving oversized vehicles on the asphalt, tree roots, and using rock salt during the snowy season. Proper installation and sealing the driveway every 10 years can help prevent cracks.

Professionals provide high-quality sealants and applications, extending pavement life and enhancing appearance.

DIY asphalt repair is feasible for small issues like cracks or potholes, provided you have the correct materials and tools. However, for more extensive damage or to ensure a durable, smooth surface and prevent further deterioration, engaging professional services is recommended for their expertise and long-lasting results.

New asphalt typically needs 24 to 72 hours to dry before it can handle light foot traffic and careful driving. Although it may appear solid after a few days, the full curing process, where the asphalt reaches its peak strength, takes much longer—generally from 30 days to a year.

During this extended curing time, the surface remains relatively soft and can be damaged by heavy vehicles, sharp objects, or high temperatures. To protect your investment, it's best to avoid parking heavy machinery on the asphalt until it has fully cured.

The exact time required for drying and curing depends on several factors, including the weather, the specific asphalt mix, and its thickness. For the most accurate advice tailored to your situation, consult with your asphalt contractor.

The three most common types of asphalt are hot asphalt, MC cold mix, and UPM asphalt. Hot asphalt is used most often for paving and patching roadways while it’s hot and workable. MC cold mix asphalt cures more slowly than hot asphalt, but it can be used for temporary patches and repairs in low-traffic areas. UPM is also used cold, but it can be used as a longer-term fix, usable in almost any conditions at almost any temperature.
