"Mike and his daughter worked great together! We had scratched window tinting and they removed it and applied new tinting. We also had some windows that were not tinted at all, and they applied tinting to them. Not only did they show up when they said they would, they were professional, courteous, and very neat. I highly recommend Mike!"

"Robert and the Florida Tinting team did an excellent job installing the tinting on my house windows. The 3 person team worked like a well-oiled machine in the way they prepped and completed the work on my windows. They were very thorough in explaining how/why they installed the film the way they did. I would definitely hire Florida Tinting Inc again for any window tinting work I needed to have done. David C. "It couldn't have gone better. Precision Safety Films came out and were on time, courteous, and made our windows look fantastic. Keith spent the day in our home and was very polite. He answered all of our questions and worked very hard. The windows looked great when he was done. I used to get a lot of sunshine in the afternoon and the tinted hurricane film cut down on the heat and the glare. I feel safer with it there already and it looks wonderful. I'm looking forward to saving on my electric bill now that there's not so much heat coming in.!!"

Window Tinting questions, answered by experts

Cellular shades, also known as honeycomb shades, are the most energy-efficient and insulating window treatments. Their honeycomb structure is made of soft fabric that forms layered cell pockets. These pockets trap air, creating a thermal barrier that reduces heat loss in the winter and blocks heat gain in the summer. For even greater insulation, consider double- or triple-cell varieties. Side-tracked cellular shades, which seal the edges of the window frame, can further minimize air leaks and maximize energy efficiency.

Energy-efficient windows are judged on their performance according to a few different factors, including heat transfer, air leakage, light transference, and condensation resistance. If you're unsure whether a window is energy-efficient, look for an ENERGY STAR® label from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). If various products, including windows, meet energy-efficiency standards set by the federal government, the EPA issues this label to help consumers identify energy-efficient products.

While it is possible to install home window tint yourself, it is a challenging task that is often best left to professionals. The process can be tedious and time-consuming, requiring steady hands and a great deal of patience, especially for a first-time installer.

Common mistakes in DIY applications include visible bubbles, imperfections, and film that either hangs over the edges or doesn't fully cover the glass. These errors not only look unprofessional and detract from your home's curb appeal but can also reduce the tint's effectiveness in blocking sunlight and heat. If you have struggled with applying protective films to smaller items like phones or tablets, you may find this task particularly difficult.

Attempting the installation yourself and making a mistake can lead to wasted material and the additional cost of hiring a professional to fix the issues or redo the job. Although hiring a professional involves labor costs, it typically guarantees a high-quality, seamless appearance and saves you from having to do the work over again.

The lifespan of window tinting depends on several factors, but a high-quality, professionally applied tint can last anywhere from 5 to 25 years, with premium tints lasting at least 15 to 20 years. Key factors influencing longevity include the quality of the film, the professionalism of the installation, and the type of window. Some companies offer lifetime warranties, while others may only provide a one-year warranty or none at all, so it's wise to verify this with your service provider. To prolong the film's life, clean it gently with a microfiber towel and mild cleaning solutions. Avoid harsh, abrasive, alcohol-based, or ammonia-based cleaners, as well as sharp tools or scrubbers, which can damage the surface.

Applying window security film yourself is possible, but we don’t recommend it. This task is simple in theory, but getting the product to sit on your windows evenly and without bubbles underneath is challenging for DIYers who lack the necessary experience and tools. You might save money on labor by applying it yourself, but you might also end up with a film that doesn’t look appealing, prompting you to start over and spend the money on a professional installation anyway. Plus, most window film manufacturers will void your warranty if you install the product yourself.
