The call in to the business was answered by a live person. I was forwarded to Brian who is the tint salesperson. He came to our home and measured. He was able to provide a written quote by email later that day. Suncoast's price was in the middle of the three estimates we got. His estimate was MUCH less than the highest and only a little more than the lowest. It was pretty clear the lower quote was a guy working out of his house. Being from up north, we aren't used to that, even though it seems to be the norm here in Florida.

Our house is located on the water, so we wanted hurricane protection and something lighter than the tint that was installed by the home's previous owner. Brian's product knowledge was superior to the other two salespeople. We felt most comfortable with him and were very pleased with his price.

On installation day, two young men showed up to do the work about five minutes before the 8am scheduled installation time. Both were friendly and ready to work. I'm aware of the fact that installers don't want to be watched the whole time or bothered with questions, but I had a couple of questions along the way, both of which were answered in a friendly and informative manner. Any hesitations I had about strangers in my home were relieved by the professionalism of the installers. The removal was noisy but expected. They did a great job of keeping the trash corralled as they worked. We eventually left for the day and returned around dinner time.

The work looks amazing! Brian's film recommendation was spot on and we were able to increase the brightness in the living room while still decreasing the temperature. I can sit near the windows and read my book without melting! Thanks Suncoast! A+ all the way around!

Window Tinting questions, answered by experts

While you need heat to peel back window film, the tint will often leave behind adhesive residue. You can use chemicals such as isopropyl alcohol or acetone to remove the residue, though hardware stores sell specialized solutions for this purpose as well. You can also use soapy water in a pinch!

Window security film won’t prevent break-ins or stop your window from shattering from impact during extreme weather like hurricanes or tornadoes. However, applying security film is relatively inexpensive, and it can make breaking into your home significantly harder—often hard enough to deter burglars entirely—and keep your window from shattering on your floor after impact. For these reasons, window security film is often a worthwhile investment that helps protect your property.

The most popular treatment for a skylight is skylight shades. There are five primary types: manual, motorized, blackout, cellular//honeycomb, and Venetian. Motorized skylight shades are the most convenient, especially for skylights that are higher up, but manual shades are the most cost-effective treatments. Cellular/honeycomb shades are a perfect option for anyone who wants energy efficiency and an attractive look.

Solar screens reduce glare and block UV rays, which may slightly dim natural light and alter the view from inside. However, most homeowners find the trade-off worthwhile for improved comfort and energy savings. The impact depends on the screen’s color and density, with darker screens blocking more light but providing enhanced glare reduction and privacy.

The most popular tint percentage for home windows is 35%. Generally, most homeowners choose a visible light transmission (VLT) between 50% and 35%, where lower numbers mean less sunlight enters the home. A 35% tint blocks over half the incoming light while still allowing plenty of natural light, which can improve energy efficiency and comfort. If privacy is a primary concern, you can opt for a tint of 50% or lower to make it more difficult for people to see inside. However, keep in mind that very dark, thick tints may offer fewer energy-efficiency benefits.

Unlike cars, there are no laws regulating window tint percentages on homes, so you can choose what you think is best. It is often a good idea to hire a professional, as they can show you samples of how different tint levels will look in your specific property, helping you make the right choice.
