"Rodney installed an irrigation system and sod for our entire yard. I haven't work with any better company or person before. Rodney is a man of his word. He was in constant contact with me and delivered what he promised. The quality of the irrigation system was commercial grade and the sod was fresh and very good quality as well. Rodney and Chris worked so hard and always made sure we were pleased with what they were doing. I would not hesitate to hire them again and would absolutely recommend him."

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

Water the lawn thoroughly, apply fertilizer, and overseed if necessary to promote healthy growth.

If you’re wondering whether grass seed will germinate on top of soil, the answer is yes. In fact, it’s the best way to plant your grass seed. Spread seeds in an even layer on top of loose, fertile soil will allow them to germinate and grow strong roots. Topping them with a thin layer of straw will help them retain moisture and stay put, as well as protect them from getting eaten by animals.

Along with helping your grass grow in thicker and healthier, overseeding better equips it against hungry insects, common lawn diseases, drought, heavy foot traffic, and other foes that can weaken or kill the grass over time. By investing the extra time and money into overseeding, you’re lowering potential costs of fertilizer, pesticides, or possibly reseeding the lawn in the future.

Unfortunately, no. Grass seeds need a lot of moisture until they become sprouts, so this is an especially sensitive time. While they'll dry out if they get dehydrated, over-watering creates other problems. The grass seeds don't recover because they can just wash away or even rot, making for low germination rates. The ones that do germinate after being pushed under the soil may start to sprout only to die from lack of sunlight.

Sod is different from grass because it comes in thick layers of mature grass, roots, and soil for quick transportation and easy installation. This is different from seeding your lawn, which involves directly laying grass seeds into the ground. Grass seeds take approximately 30 days to begin germinating and up to 18 months to reach maturity, whereas sod comes ready to go.
