Customers say: True professional

"How fortunate I am to have E&M provide professional repairs to my home interior. All aspects of service from initial contact and quote to finished project were top notch. Donna provided an immediate quote and set appointment about one week out upon request for my home and kept as promised. Everardo arrived and reviewed every single part of the project with me. I cannot emphasize enough his work ethic and commitment to customer satisfaction. As the project evolved we agreed on each portion and Everardo obtained my verbal approval before completion of each step. I was so thrilled with his work ethic which was uncompromising and beyond difficult to find in today’s world. His empathy and compassion for his customer is personally driven and will lead to continued success. Many thanks to E&M and I will be a return customer."

"Greg is such a kind-hearted, sweet and honest man. He did an amazing job setting the tile in my bathroom. I was struggling to do it myself because of the tiles, couldn’t get a straight cut, but Greg came in and got it done! Took him a few hours and I’m so grateful. The room looks amazing. I still need to grout but overall amazing job! I enjoyed his company as he’s very easy to talk to and had me laughing. I will absolutely use him again. Thank you, Greg!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You should leave a gap between drywall sheets because they naturally expand and contract along with the building framing as temperature and humidity change. Most pro drywall installers leave a gap of about ⅛ inch between drywall sheets, allowing the sheets to expand, contract, and shift without cracking or becoming damaged. If you don’t leave enough gaps between slabs, the edges will press against each other when they expand, and the pressure can cause visible cracks.

How you hang the drywall can affect the finishing process. It's often easier to finish horizontal drywall panels, as the seams run across the wall rather than up and down. Standard drywall panels are 48 inches wide, so the seam is easy to reach without bending down or stretching your arms.

The amount of drywall you need for a 1,000-square-foot basement depends on the ceiling height, angles, number of doors and windows, and more. To find the wall square footage, multiply the width and height of each wall, minus any gaps from windows or doors, and add the totals together. You’ll also need enough drywood nails or screws to install the drywall correctly.

Yes, applying a texture can hide minor imperfections and irregularities in drywall, but it will not cover significant damage like nail marks or screw holes. The best texture depends on the size of the flaws. For minor imperfections, popular choices like orange peel, sand, or popcorn texture are effective. For larger imperfections, you may need a more prominent style, such as a knockdown or trowel finish, to conceal them effectively.

If the holes in the plaster are small, you can fill them with layers of patching plaster until they’re filled. After it dries, you can sand the plaster and paint over it. If the hole is much larger, consider using bonding plaster first and then a layer of patching plaster, completing the process with sanding and a layer of paint.
