"Edward Ryan worked with us every step of the way... he helped us get the designs and permits and did a large amount of the work himself. He has a great work ethic and kept everything moving forward. The subcontractors he did use were very professional. They did such a great job that you would have a hard time figuring out where the addition was put on if you didn't know where to look. I fully intend to use him again for home renovations we have planned."

"Zahir is by far the best contractor I’ve used. I’m a real estate agent and have crossed paths with many contractors over the years. After working with Zahir, I was sold! He’s VERY knowledgeable and his attention to details are amazing. I’ve worked with him many times. His last project was for my personal home where he and his team designed and built an outdoor kitchen. It was done to perfection, EARLIER than expected. How often does that happen with contractors??? I couldn’t be any happier with the quality of his work!"

"What can I say. This company is a gem. Hire Them. They will restore your faith in contractors. Patrica Rivera who is my contact for the job, was professional thorough listened to my needs for the condo was responsive to phone call and question promptly, steered me away from spending needless money, wrote a clear concise estimate, went over every bit of the estimate. Once approved Patrica and the crew stayed on budget unless I requested something else. If they had a question, I was notified. There were no surprises. Beside her competency , she has an excellent sense of style, knows her materials and finishes and is most accomplished in helping you with design. Hugo and the crew are perfection in their work. Nothing required a redo, seams lines, paint perfect, I cannot say enough. Master Painting and Remodeling is transparent in their billing, so rare in this day and age. The term customer service is alive and well with this company."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Framing most homes takes anywhere between five and eight weeks to complete. You’ll need to account for inclement weather conditions, material shipment times, the number of crew members, and the weight of your materials. If the weather is too hot, wet, or cold for the installation, this process could take closer to eight weeks.

When choosing a drywall anchor, consider the weight of the object you're hanging and how much weight the anchor will need to support. The heavier the weight, the stronger the anchor you'll need. You’ll find the weight capacity on the packaging when shopping for anchors.

Also, remember that you can use more than one anchor when hanging something on the wall. If you're using multiple anchors, divide the object weight by the number of anchors to determine how much each will need to support. If you need help deciding which drywall anchor to use, you can hire a handyperson to hang your objects.

There are approximately 5.33 board feet in a 2x4. You can use the board foot calculator in this article to easily find the answer. A 2x4 is 2 inches of thickness by 4 inches of width, so you need to find the length, with 8 feet being the most common. You’d use the calculator here to multiply 2 times 4 times 8, and then divide by 12, arriving at a total of 5.33 board feet.

Removing a load-bearing wall is best handled by professionals. However, if you have the skill set and decide to DIY the project, you will still need at least one additional person to assist you. Aside from helping with demolition, you'll need another hand to install the new support beam.

The cost to convert a carport into a garage averages about $22,000, ranging from about $15,000 and $55,000. Additional cost factors to consider include size, time of year, and how much of the carport you can reuse. Other cost factors include the kinds and amounts of materials used, such as:

  • Add insulation: $1 per square foot

  • Add drywall: $1–$3 per square foot

  • Add window: $450–$2,000 per window

  • Add outlets: $75–$500

  • Add garage door: $250–$11,200

  • Enclose framing: $5–$13 per square foot

  • Replace roofing: $1,000–$2,000
