"I had a pipe burst in my house a few weeks ago. Will came and gave me an estimate and knew what the problem was. When. He fixed it as soon as we scheduled and was done quick and efficient. A week later my hot water heater finally gave out and Will was there same day I called and installed a brand new one. I couldn’t have asked for a better plumber. On top of all that he beat competitors prices. I highly recommend Will and Coker Plumbing. I will be referring him to anyone that needs a plumber. Thank you for your excellent work."

"We had a toilet and garbage disposal repaired at our rental home. The work was able to be done right away, and we paid a lower price than what was previously quoted, so we felt that he was very trustworthy. We will definitely call C&B again!"

"The flat roof above a sunroom addition in my parents home began to leak in multiple places.  I contacted Randy and he was able to take a look and provide an estimate the same afternoon.  The work was performed in a different city than I live, and Randy was most accommodating in scheduling, provided regular updates on progress (with pictures)  and accepted credit card for payment.  He was also very respectful of my elderly parents needs and made an effort to minimize disruption.   When weather (rain) delayed the roof repair, he finished the job on the first dry days which was Saturday and Sunday.  The roofing product he installed is guaranteed for 10 years.   I would highly recommend him to anyone in the Mobile area, and will call him again if a need arises.

"Dishwasher and ceiling fan service was wonderful. Garbage disposal is on its way, the shower fixture was a little messy and have to return 3 times to fix, pray its the last time. But not Choice Warranty's fault. Alittle pricey but allows you to pay them out."

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.

If your garbage disposal powers up and you can hear it hum, but the arms inside aren’t moving, the problem might be a stubborn clog, a build-up of grease, or a jam of the impeller plate. To troubleshoot these, ensure your unit is off and disconnected from its power source before checking inside the drain or attempting to manually rotate the impeller arms or plate from the underside of the unit. A hex wrench can help.

Continuous feed garbage disposals are the favorite model for many homeowners for a reason. As opposed to batch feed models, add food scraps to the drain whenever the disposal is running. This variety is also typically less expensive, more convenient, and easier to clean.

Whether it's worth repairing your garbage disposal depends on its age and the specific problem. Generally, if the unit is eight years old or younger, repair is a good option. For minor issues like a bad seal or a simple jam, a repair can be inexpensive, sometimes under $10. However, if the motor is broken (a repair that can cost $150 or more) or the unit is getting old, it's often more cost-effective to replace the entire disposal.

On average, a garbage disposal can last anywhere from 7 to 12 years, with many models functioning well for about 10 years. With heavy usage, a motor may last a minimum of five years, while grinding plates will wear down over time. It's generally a good idea to consider a replacement if your unit is approaching the 10-year mark. Other signs that it's time for a new disposal include frequent leaks, persistent clogs, lingering odors, lack of power, or unusual noises. If your unit is not that old, it's worth investigating if a less expensive part, like a rubber seal or a loose hose, is causing the issue.
