"With crime and break-ins picking up around the city, we felt it was time to invest in home security. Using ADT for the entire process was excellent. They added an extra motion detector to our equipment package for being new customers. We also added the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. All and all, a great overall security and automation system."

"Bryan and Lou from my smart security installed a system that met my needs perfectly. I found them on the web, searching for a local provider of a monitoring system that would allow me to control my 2nd home in Florida remotely from Connecticut. They provided a system that works through Alarm.com and is monitored by Monitronics. I can control door locks, lights, security cameras and other sensors. Awesome! And, best of all, these fellows are very responsive and the installation was professionally done.
Now, this particular system does take some effort to use. If you want a "dumb" or typical alarm system from a company like ADT, it may be simpler to use. But the new, modern, cloud based systems like the ones my smart security folks offer provide much more capability in addition to standard penetration alarm services, and can expand into with additional devices in the future. For me, this was the way to go, rather than ADT or a system tied to the cable company. I recommend.

Home Security Systems FAQs, answered by experts

A home security system can be a worthwhile investment for several reasons. Financially, it may qualify you for a discount of up to 20% on your home insurance premiums, which can help offset the initial setup costs and any ongoing monitoring or subscription fees. For many, the primary benefit is the peace of mind that comes with enhanced security, especially for those living in areas with higher crime rates. Ultimately, whether a system is worth it depends on your personal preferences, the value of the assets you wish to protect, and your overall safety concerns.

Whether a security system or security cameras is a better choice for you depends on your needs and preferred comfort level. A security system can cost more depending on the features you choose, but it’s a more proactive and protective approach to home security by alerting you and authorities of any emergencies. Using a security camera system is a more reactive approach because while you can monitor the camera footage, it does not alert the proper authorities for you.

Smart deadbolts are a worthwhile investment for homeowners seeking more convenience, flexibility, and advanced features than a traditional deadbolt can provide. While a strong conventional deadbolt offers sufficient security for most, smart deadbolts provide significant upgrades.

Key benefits include keyless entry via smartphone, keypads, or biometric sensors, and the ability to lock or unlock your door remotely. You can also manage access for guests by creating temporary codes, eliminating the need for physical keys and the risk of them being lost or duplicated. Many models integrate with smart home systems and offer features like automatic locking, entry-exit monitoring, and tamper alerts with encryption for enhanced security.

However, there are downsides to consider. Smart deadbolts are more expensive than their traditional counterparts and rely on batteries and wireless networks to function. This dependency introduces potential vulnerabilities, such as hacking by skilled intruders and privacy concerns. Installation can also be more complex. Despite these drawbacks, the added layer of convenience and protection makes them a compelling option for many.

A potential weak link in any security system is poor connection strength or dropped signals, particularly in the case of a fully wireless system. You also want to ensure a reliable connection to get a hold of your service provider quickly. Also, you should exercise caution when handing out sign-in credentials to people outside the household.

Your best bet is to install a bracket that secures to the bottom of the unit and the side of your house. You should still secure the AC unit in the open window using some of the other methods already listed, but a bracket is best to ensure that it stays put—both during operation and in case of an attempted theft.
