"Outstanding professional services. What I appreciated most was there was a clear invoice and any requested changes - whether to add service or remove - the scope of work and invoice was updated each day. Communication with tho owner was outstanding. Robed old carpeting fans tile and replaced with luxury vynal. Work started and ended as quoted. The place was clean and everything removed. So happy to have found Smith Flooring and More. Used them again for another project."

"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding experience from start to finish I cannot say enough good things about Footprints Floors and Thomas Dipaolo. From the very beginning, the experience was smooth, honest, and professional. The quote was spot-on and well under what I expected, with no surprises or hidden costs. Thomas took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure I was comfortable with every decision before the work began. The quality of the work is absolutely amazing. They redid my entire house, and the craftsmanship, attention to detail, and overall finish exceeded my expectations. The project was handled efficiently, the crew was respectful of my home, and the results speak for themselves. If you’re looking for a flooring company that delivers excellent value, top-tier workmanship, and outstanding customer service, I highly recommend Footprints Floors and Thomas Dipaolo. I would not hesitate to use them again."

"Joe is excellent. Finishes on schedule and happy to do smaller tasks without adding too much more to cost. He completely remodeled our guest bath, took out tub, replaced shower, tile, fixtures and grout. Highly recommend"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

No, you don’t technically need a cement backer board for a wall tiling project, but not using it risks disastrous moisture damage. Cement is naturally water-resistant, whereas drywall soaks it in, which can lead to warping or mold growth. Always use a backer board treated with a waterproof membrane for bathrooms and other chronically damp areas to ensure complete tile shower waterproofing.

Penny tile should be sealed to protect the grout from moisture and keep stains from damaging the look of the tile. If penny tile is in a humid or high-traffic area, like a bathroom, kitchen, or entryway, it needs sealant. Any type of tile and grout is best maintained with a sealant reapplied by a pro every one to two years.

You can attach tiles to a wall using thin-set mortar. You’ll also need a notched trowel to create grooves within the adhesive so it flattens completely when pressed in and securely holds the wall tiles. Finally, you’ll need grout to smooth the gaps between the tiles and, ideally, a grout sealer to prevent mold. While it sounds simple enough, proper planning and execution are crucial, so carefully review the steps in this guide or hire a pro tile installer to complete this project.

To ensure an even and unbending surface to lay tiles on, you’ll typically need to put a subfloor under a tile floor. Fiber cement backboards are the most common choice, but using plywood is also possible. Don’t neglect this step, or you could risk water damage and grout or tiles prematurely cracking or crumbling, especially in an area with high foot traffic.

The difference between floor and wall tiles is that floor tiles generally have higher strength and porosity ratings than wall tiles. Wall tiles are typically weaker and more likely to crack or become damaged under sustained pressure like high foot traffic.

For this reason, avoid using wall tiles on floors and vice versa.
