"The concrete was removed and pavers were put in less than 3 days. They look great. Workers showed up early and worked constantly. They were very polite and answered any questions I had about the process. I knew exactly what to expect each day as the leader not only talked to me in person, but kept in touch via text."

"I am excited about the work completed by the AFS foundation crew from Mobile, Alabama! From start to finish, every step was handled with the highest professionalism and attention to detail. The team of David, Bobby, Jesus, and Logan took the time to explain the technical process in simple, clear terms, making sure I felt confident throughout the project. They also stuck to the promised timeline, finishing the installation on schedule without sacrificing quality. I also appreciate the crew’s effort to keep the worksite tidy. David, Bobby, Jesus, and Logan exceeded my expectations in every way. Their blend of technical skill, punctuality, and dedication to customer satisfaction makes them a top-tier crew. "I recently purchased a commercial building in need of some foundation repairs and was referred to Shore Up Foundation by a family friend. Chase, Adlai and their crew were professional, courteous and educated me throughout the correction and improvement process to resolve my issues. We ran into some unrelated foundation issues on my job, but I was impressed with the amount of experience and exceptional awareness they took to help quickly resolve the problem. I would highly recommend Shore Up; I appreciate the professionalism and time they took during this intensive repair."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

No, you don’t need to soak the brick before cutting it by hand. In fact, cutting a wet brick can make it harder to see your score lines and may cause the chisel to slip. Soaking is sometimes used with power tools to reduce dust, but for hand-cutting, it’s best to work with dry bricks for better control and visibility.

Yes, you can limewash surfaces other than brick. Plaster, stone, stucco, and concrete can all also be limewashed. Any porous surface that will absorb the wash is a good candidate for limewash, although it won’t help much with waterproofing. If you choose to limewash over paint, you’ll need to prep before applying it to avoid a powdery, chalky finish. Shiny surfaces like metal or glass can’t absorb limewash, so it’s not suited for these.

A traditional rectangular brick that is used for siding, brick walks, and pathways is 8 inches long by 4 inches wide. If you are shopping for fire bricks, the standard dimension is typically 9 inches long by 4.5 inches wide.

A fireplace is, by definition, an enclosed space where you burn wood or other fuel for the purpose of generating light and heat. A firepit burns wood and is much less expensive to build, but they aren’t technically a fireplace as it isn’t enclosed. An outdoor oven—commonly outdoor brick pizza ovens—often uses wood as fuel, but its primary purpose is to cook food, and you’d rarely just burn wood inside them for warmth or aesthetic reasons.

Europe is a continent made of many individual countries with a history of city life. In these cities, dirt roads were unsanitary and often shifted. The Ancient Romans started laying cobblestone streets in the 3rd century, which became an iconic feature of European cities. The durable and practical paving material proved to be extremely weather-resistant.
