"Gerald came on Sunday to repair garage ceiling that had loosened in a corner and was almost touching my garage door track. He also checked the rest of the ceiling for me and repaired some nail pops and a crack that had developed at a high point in several places inside my house. I was pleased with the work and felt fortunate to find him to do it. I plan to have him do other jobs in the future."

"Joshua came to the appointment on time. He put together a desk that had an overwhelming amount of pieces and did an excellent job. I appreciated that he took away the huge box it came in and I would highly recommend him for your handyman needs. Thanks for a job wel done."

"Ross Swanson and his employee did fine workmanship of our garage ceiling, which is not an easy job. For years we`ve been wanting our popcorn removed because of it`s pealing and tape failure. They removed the popcorn, retaped all joints, and then a knockdown texture. 100% better appearance !! If anyone needs popcorn removed or drywall repairs, you need Ross Swanson ! He is also a fun person for conversation. Give him a Call !"

"It went amazingly well.  Bill and Scott are very friendly, personable and talented.  They patched and sanded walls and ceilings, were very professional and I recommend them highly.  After the AL deal, I immediately asked them back to do more work.

There was a significant amount of splattering left on the floor, sink and fixtures in the bathroom.  When I called to have them return to clean up what they claimed to have cleaned the first time when pointed out, they were well over 90 mins late, and when they arrived there as a significant attitude towards us. They left again with paint on the floor, tile around the shower where they painted and numerous other spots.

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

If your popcorn ceiling is asbestos-free and you are ready for a new look, painting is an option. As long as there is no flaking or other wear, a new coat of paint might be just the thing to refresh the old ceiling. The best way to paint a popcorn ceiling is to use either a paint sprayer or a thick roller to cover the popcorn texture fully. (Do not forget to dust it off beforehand!)

“Note that if you eventually want to remove the popcorn ceiling, a painted ceiling is a labor-intensive job to remove and will cost more,” says Bob Tschudi. “Once painted, the process of removing the popcorn ceiling requires physical scraping as opposed to a spray-and-scrape approach. It’s very labor-intensive, and thus more costly.”

Popcorn ceilings have fallen out of popularity due to their outdated appearance, difficult maintenance, and potential health risks. Ceilings installed before the 1990s may contain asbestos, which poses a serious health hazard if disturbed. As design trends have shifted towards sleeker, more modern finishes, many homeowners now favor smoother ceilings that offer a cleaner look and easier upkeep.

However, popcorn ceilings do offer some benefits, such as acoustic dampening and the ability to hide imperfections. Some people also appreciate their retro charm or find them to be a cost-effective option. Ultimately, whether a popcorn ceiling is 'bad' depends on personal preference, safety concerns, and the overall aesthetic of the home.

After removing any type of skylight, you have a few options for the ceiling. You can patch and repair the ceiling to match the surrounding area, ensuring a smooth and seamless finish. Alternatively, you can install a light fixture or a ceiling fan in place of the skylight to maintain functionality and enhance the room's lighting and ventilation. Ultimately, the choice depends on your preferences and the specific requirements of the space. No matter what you choose, you’ll probably want to call in a pro to help.

No, you do not have to worry about new popcorn ceilings having asbestos. All residential building materials used since the mid-1980s stopped including asbestos, so new popcorn ceilings have no risk of asbestos. You can still create a textured drywall ceiling with a popcorn texture if you like, but new techniques have no risk of adding asbestos.

Some pros may recommend covering a popcorn ceiling that tests positive for asbestos with beadboard ceiling planks or drywall. The cost to install a beadboard ceiling averages more than $5,000, but you likely will pay more than the average for the installer to deal with the asbestos safely. Installing a beadboard ceiling or new drywall will disturb the asbestos and release some microscopic fibers, so the installer will need to take precautions.
