Small jobs welcome

"RD Allen Construction did a minor roof repair on our business and did an outstanding job. In todays world its hard getting anyone to show up. RD Allen not only showed up on time, but followed up and completed the job in a timely manner. I would hire this company over and over again. Great to work with."

"We are pleased with our experience so far with Hometown Contractors. The only issue was that we were not called to set up a time for the person to come and measure. I had to call them, but I believe this might have been an error that probably does not happen often. We are currently waiting for materials to come in so the installation has not occurred. All in all I believe this is a good company and look forward to the finished product."

"I have never, ever, EVER dealt with a contractor like this. I requested a quote in Apr 2018. When I called they schedule for the very next day to come give me an estimate. They showed up, took measurements, considered the project, jotted down notes and handed me a precise, single figure, written quote for a new marble walk-in shower. They never once tried to upcharge me or try to convince me I needed more than I asked for. They also explained the process. 4 days, Wes said. Day 1...demolition of the old shower and prep. Day 2...they would fabricate at their shop, so they wouldn't be at the house. Day 3 and Day 4...installation. We held off on the project because of work and summer approaching. When I called then in Aug, they scheduled as soon as my schedule permitted. They came in...Day 1...demolition and prep. Day 2...they didn't come to the house. Day 3 and Day 4...they installed a BEAUTIFUL shower. Jerry handed me the invoice and it was EXACTLY the amount they quoted me 4 months earlier. Not a single penny more. I can't express enough how incredibly impressed I am at the professionalism and quality. They did EXACTLY what they promised. These guys are great!"

"I normally do all renovations on my own for cost & OCD reasons, but had to hire out a few jobs as a moving deadline was coming up. If I had known about Vacslav years ago, I would have hired all my tile jobs out to him. I'm happy when I get tile cuts to ~1/16", but Vacslav's were to about 1/32"...in other words, the quality was better than I expected (he worked every last detail), in about half the time it would have taken me, and at a fair price. Additionally, Vacslav was a pleasure to work with - he was very responsive (really unusual in our area), always on time, worked full days, and understood exactly what I wanted...couldn't be happier with the process & outcome"

Tub Shower Conversion questions, answered by experts

If you plan to make bathroom updates in the near future, try to lump in a few smaller projects with your shower door installation. Most contractors charge a flat rate for smaller projects like updating a fixture. If you lump it in with other projects, you may not have to pay an additional visit fee. Projects to consider doing when you replace your shower door include: Replacing the tile in your shower Updating the showerhead Updating other bathroom fixtures Minor repairs, like fixing small leaks and worn caulk Installing water-safe recessed lighting in your shower

Signs that your shower valve has gone bad include a variety of issues with water flow and temperature. Common symptoms are low water pressure, inconsistent water temperature, and dripping or leaking from the handle or showerhead when the water is off. You might also notice that the knob is difficult to turn or won't turn at all. Another key indicator of a bad diverter valve is water coming from both the tub spout and the showerhead simultaneously, or being unable to switch the water flow between the two fixtures. In advanced cases, the water may not turn on at all. These are all signs that the valve may need to be replaced.

Adding a shower to a half bath transforms it into a three-quarter bath. Compared to converting a half bath into a full bath, this type of conversion is a more affordable way to add functionality and accessibility. This project can add around 5% to 6% to the value of your home, especially if you only have one full bathroom or your only shower is on an upper level. This is a common upgrade for a ground floor when homeowners are hoping to age in place.

You can adjust the mixing valve on your shower if it uses a single handle to control both hot and cold water by removing the handle and adjusting the cap on the mixing valve. The cap fits over the valve handle and creates a low and high point for your handle to spin. Remove the cap and turn it to adjust how it mixes hot and cold water, and then replace the cap and reinstall the handle.

Shower arms come in a standard size with ½-inch NPT, but designs vary. The height of the water supply pipe and the showerhead height you want affect the type of shower arm you should choose. For example, a water outlet that’s located close to the ceiling would be suitable for a standard shower arm (small extension with a slight downward angle) or a straight arm model. Outlets situated lower in the shower allow for gooseneck shower arms, which can raise the showerhead's height.
