"Worthmann Roofing installed a new metal roof on our home. There was a part that needed additional work but unfortunately, it rained before it could be completed and some damage was done. Worthmann Roofing FULLY STOOD behind their warranty and repaired the affected. Additionally, I would like to mention that the restoration company, Morales Restoration, was SO good. They cleaned, mopped and left our home clean and as good as of it had never happened. Last but not least, a special “Thank you” to Joey with Worthmann Roofing for your guidance in getting this done. We truly do appreciate it!"

"The price came under the quote. They came exactly when they said they would and they kept the area clean and came back twice to pick up roofing nails that landed in the grass. Everyone was polite and cleaned up after having lunch. I was so happy to find someone so honest and hardworking I called him to repair a tile on my house.

"Westfall Roofing installed a new roofing system on our 25 year old home. We could not be more pleased. They arrived on time, protected our landscaping and pool, worked hard and completed the project in one day. They were respectful of our property and removed all the debris before leaving. A supervisor returned the following day to walk the property and inquire as to whether we were happy. As promised, another crew arrived two weeks later to install new gutters and downspouts. Like the first crew, they were friendly, professional and respectful of our property. We highly recommend Westfall Roofing."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

DIY is not recommended due to safety and expertise requirements. Professional installation ensures proper alignment and sealing.

Though cedar shakes often get confused with shingles, there are a few key differences between wood shakes and wood shingles. For one, cedar shingle prices are lower, although shingles are less durable than wood shakes. Cedar shakes are thicker than shingles (shingles range from about 3/8 to 1/2 inches thick, compared to 1/2 to 3/4 inches thick for shakes). Wood shakes are handmade, while shingles are usually machine-made. Also, wood shakes work better on steeper roofs than shingles do. While the cost of cedar shingles is more budget-friendly, there are many great reasons to choose shakes.

The most common defect in a flat roof is leaking. Flat roofs have minimal slope, so water pools more readily on a flat roof than on a sloped roof, and the risk of the waterproof membrane failing increases with exposure. Tears and punctures from foot traffic and blown debris are other common problems, especially with single-ply roofing membranes like TPO and EPDM roofs.

You can install solar panels on a flat or pitched roof, but keep in mind that they will need to rest at a 30- to 50-degree tilt for optimal sun absorption. It costs more to install solar panels on a flat roof because you will need to install a framing system and likely hire a structural engineer. If your roof has a pitch of more than 40 degrees, it may not be a good candidate for solar panels.

The best material to sheath a roof will depend on your budget and if you require the strength of more robust materials. For most homes, the added strength is unnecessary, and oriented strand board, or OSB, makes sense. It’s inexpensive and robust enough for most roof types. Another popular but slightly more expensive option is plywood.
