"Excellent, Mark came out and gave me a quote. I called him a couple days later to set up day to get work done. He showed up on time and work was done professionally. The tree was approximately 50 foot high and rotten at bottom. It was very close to my fence and shed. They were able to cut it down piece by piece without damaging my fence. I was highly impressed and hired him back to cut more limbs off that were overhanging my driveway and over my house since they were dead as well. He showed up on time and again did a great job. I would highly recommend his company. Prices reasonable and showed up as on time as scheduled."

"I highly recommend hiring Michael for any yardwork you need done. He does excellent work for such a fair price. I hired Michael to level grade a 14' x 14' area for a prefab shed. I can't speak enough about how blown away I am of for the work he did. The attention to detail is next level."

"Joshua and his crew did an excellent job at a good price. He explained the treatment of my palms to alleviate a fungus problem, plus trimming those trees, cutting down other trees and removing the debris. I was impressed enough to hire him for another, larger project. Highly recommended!"

"I don't have to see an example....M & H Tree Service was fabulous! Marcus and his helper did a wonderful job plus more! He even cleaned out our gutter and cleaned everything up that he possibly could and raked the entire yard practically. We will still have leaves from the neighbors trees and told him not to worry about raking, but he did it anyway. He is an excellent, personable worker that would satisfy anybody! Very sweet human being!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

If you’re looking to rot a tree stump fast, potassium nitrate will work far quicker than copper nails. First, drill several holes into the stump using a power drill, then pour potassium nitrate pellets into the holes. Next, add water to help the chemical absorb into the wood, thoroughly soaking the stump to ensure the pellets dissolve and spread evenly. Afterward, cover the stump with a tarp to retain moisture and block sunlight, then place mulch on top to secure it in place.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

Generally, avoid trimming trees in the summer (with the exception of pruning fruit trees as needed). Trees use a lot of energy in the summer, most of which is relegated to new growth. If you chop it too early, you could stunt the next season's growth. Again, when in doubt, do some research based on the specific tree type.

While the fastest way to kill a tree is to simply cut it down, there are several other methods to choose from. You should hire a professional tree removal service to cut down a tree to ensure your personal and property safety. Some slower but effective options include treating or grinding the tree stump or using a basal bark treatment.

Burning a tree stump can be effective, but it comes with safety considerations and isn’t always best for every situation. It's essential to check local regulations and assess the safety risks involved. Stumps that are near wooden structures or other non-moveable flammable objects aren’t good candidates for burning due to the risk of the fire spreading. Alternatives like grinding or a DIY stump rotting project might be safer and quicker for getting the job done.
