Emergency services offered

"Best painting (construction) service I have ever had. Joey came in, gave us an estimate, hit budget, beat expecting timing by about a week. Results are basically... perfect. As we don't live local to the beach house, we had to communicate via txt and it was awesome - pics every day on the work done. Highly recommend!"

Small jobs welcome

"My husband and I hired A Helpful Handyman to help us install two feature walls of wallpaper in our rental townhouse. Greg was quick to respond to our quote request and communicated with us seamlessly to arrange services from another state. Because we were limited on time, we prepared our own walls but he offered and can provide a turn key install if you choose. Greg helped us get the right materials and the correct amount of paper. The feature walls really brought our baths to life. We were so happy with the results. He did a great job, was very personable and friendly, and tidy as he worked. His communication was excellent. We also took advantage of his dryer vent cleaning services. We will definitely be reaching out for future wallpaper needs plus other handy jobs in our future."

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

While peel-and-stick wallpapers require no time to cure, the adhesives for other types of papers will take a day or two to dry and up to three weeks to fully cure. The differences are the type of paper, the type of adhesive, and the humidity and temperature in the space.

The color of the paint, its opacity, and the depth of the texture on the paper all affect how many coats of paint you need to apply to paintable wallpaper. You'll need at least two coats of paint to ensure even coverage. Don’t be surprised if you need to apply three coats if the embossing is very deep or if you use a dark color.

We don’t recommend wallpapering over older paper. That’s because creating layers of glue can invite bubbling or excess moisture on the wall’s surface. You should also prime your wall before applying wallpaper and smooth the wall as much as you can, and another layer of wallpaper complicates this process.

Wall panels offer functional and aesthetic benefits. From a practical standpoint, panels can improve your home's insulation and energy efficiency, especially if you opt for solid wood panels. They can also help protect your existing wall.

Aesthetically, wall panels have a knack for adding dynamic texture, warmth, and sophistication to a room. And thanks to their many different shapes, sizes, and styles, wall panels can elevate a wide variety of home designs.

Finally, it’s relatively easy to cover wall panels, so you have some flexibility if you end up not liking the look over time.

Hiring a professional wallpaper hanger is usually a worthwhile idea because, while the application of wallpaper itself is easy, getting the finished product to look good is complicated and takes a lot of practice and patience. A professional wallpaper hanger will not only be able to hang your wallpaper seamlessly, but they will also get an even application of wallpaper paste to avoid bubbling and imperfections immediately and over time. Plus, they can provide their professional opinion on whether to remove or wallpaper over an existing layer of wallpaper.
