"Samuel is extremely competent, timely, responsive, and transparent. Unfortunately, we had a roof installed a few years ago by a company who cut corners, and STMZ came to repair two separate leaks in the “new” roof. He documented every step of the process with photos, and explained what he was doing. (Most contractors, in my experience, do not take the time to explain the process to you!) I highly recommend his services, and if we ever need to replace the roof, STMZ will be the company we will call."

"We are very happy with our remodeled kitchen. We met with numerous contractors who all basically had the same ideas for our kitchen. We decided to go with Rob Wolfe and Wolfe Construction based upon Robs ideas and vison for our kitchen and his level of knowledge. Once work started on our kitchen things moved quickly and the work crews were very pleasant and knowledgeable. The level of craftsmanship was high and the materials used were high quality. They performed the work right the way they said they would in a timely manner. We would hire Wolfe Construction again without hesitation."

"Carlyle Nation is a true perfectionist. We had new baseboards installed after getting new flooring and hired Mr. Nation to do the final painting. We also had him paint some door trims, the inside of our front door, and replace a section of crown molding. He did an excellent job on everything for a reasonable price, showing true attention to detail. He also works late to make sure that he gets the job done. We would definitely hire him again."

"

Joe?s Painting and Renovations is outstanding.  I am the President of an award winning Art Deco Building in South Beach and can unequivocally say that Joe is a consummate professional.  We have retained him for several projects which have been completed on time and under budget without fail. The owner and his crew have a great work ethic, fantastic attitudes and exhibit true attention to detail.  They are clearly the best contractor we?ve dealt with in decades.  We know when we select his company for a  project it will be done right and without the need for us to micromanage or get involved.  Without exaggeration, his company is the finest we?ve ever dealt with in over 20 years.

"We had Wayne install a new pool filter and also to move our filter and motor configuration from inside of our garage to the outside. The original owners of our house had the pool filter and pump installed in the garage instead of the outside. We recently decided to move all of that outside and to replace the old sand filter with a cartridge one (purchased through Way-Lyn Pools). Wayne and his staff showed up exactly when he said that he would on the installation day and finished it in only one day though he originally estimated that it the project would take two. He also charged a fair price for the amount of work that was needed to be done and the amount of materials that needed to be used. They minimized the amount of water that leaked onto the garage floor while they were working and left the garage and installation area outside very clean when they left. Overall, Wayne and his guys did a fantastic job and I recommend them to anyone needing service on their pool and its equipment."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

A cross brace for a fence gate should stretch from the top corner of the gate’s hinge side to the bottom corner of its latch side at a 45-degree angle to the bottom of the gate. This positioning distributes the bulk of the gate’s weight to the base of the post, taking pressure off the top hinge.

Converting a carport into a garage can vary in difficulty depending on its configuration, the condition of the foundation or slab, and its location relative to the house. The process has a lot in common with a home addition, but you can often skip non-essential finishes like fine flooring, trim work, or even drywall and HVAC. The conversion requires experience with drywall, insulation, and other building materials to ensure it’s done safely and correctly. While it might be possible for a DIYer with the proper tools and skills to do the work, it is a complicated and potentially dangerous job. If you’re new to basic construction, it's best to leave this project to the professionals.

Framing most homes takes anywhere between five and eight weeks to complete. You’ll need to account for inclement weather conditions, material shipment times, the number of crew members, and the weight of your materials. If the weather is too hot, wet, or cold for the installation, this process could take closer to eight weeks.

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.

Not all porch columns are load-bearing, though they can be. Some porch columns are simply decorative. There are ways to identify a load-bearing column, like looking for visible seams and a foundation. Also, check to see if the column directly enters the ground. In some porch installations, a contractor will excavate a hole to install a column into the earth along with a buried cement base for stability.
