"Installation was great and generator has run perfectly since. Their monthly service has also given us the peace of mind to know it will be ready when we need it. This is also the second home I have purchased a generator from them and they have always done a fantastic job."

"Actually, Power and Control Installations did much more than install electrical switches, outlets and fixtures. They installed a new 20 amp breaker, and ran wiring 60 feet underground to my new shed. The electrician they sent out was very professional, courteous, and answered all my questions. The work was completed to my satisfaction. I would highly recommend this company to others."

"Outstanding service. From the initial quote to final installation, everything was smooth and professional. He clearly knew what he was doing, ensured everything was up to code, and kept the work area clean. He also took the time to explain how to use the charger and answered all my questions. It’s rare to find this level of quality and customer care—highly recommend!”"

Small jobs welcome

"The whole experience from start to finish rates a 5, I would go higher if I could. Dexter returned my call right a way and scheduled a time to come by. (Not a time frame) on arrival he was very courteous and professional. Went the extra mile to make sure that fan was installed properly. Once done I was asking some questions about changing some light fixtures and replacing a exhaust fan in the bathroom in the near future, he checked out the fan and got it running before he left. Great guy I will definitely be calling him back in the future and will recommend him to our friends.."

"The man is truly amazing. His work is outstanding. He installed a whole house Generac generator for me and has since become an authorized Generac dealer and serviceman. I had 4 different company's give me estimates and he blew them away with a great price and fast service. Big company's put me on their waiting list. Some were up to 10 weeks out. He completed the job in 3 weeks. His work is clean and neat. One of his best attributes is that he is HONEST and does all the work himself with the aid of a helper, so you know that the job is done right. He is fully licensed and insured. I feel like I have an electrician I can truly trust."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Yes, installing a generator usually increases your property value because buyers are getting the added peace of mind knowing they’ll be able to maintain power through blackouts. In most cases, you should see close to a 100% return on investment (ROI). Keep in mind that home generators usually need a permanent foundation, and installing a concrete slab will likely raise your property taxes slightly.

Sizing a generator is a careful process that requires calculating the electrical load of your entire house. You have to take into account every device you want to use and their wattage requirements, plus the wattage needed to start them, and look for a generator that can safely run all that at around 80% capacity.

In more practical terms, a small home can run on a 10,000-watt generator (and if you only want to power a few key appliances, much less than that). A mid-sized home may need something between 15,000 and 22,000 watts. Larger homes require 25,000 watts or more.

To power a central air system during a power outage, the whole-house generator will need to be at least 5,000 watts, and this number will significantly increase for larger units. Check the specific wattage requirements of your AC unit to choose the right generator size. Consider consulting a generator installer to ensure your whole-house generator meets your electrical load needs.

If you have a transfer switch properly installed, the generator and main electrical power cannot feed the system at the same time. However, you should still shut off the power at your main circuit breaker panel before activating the generator. If you do that, you’ll simply need to shut off the generator and reset your circuit breaker once the local power comes back on.

You may need a permit for a portable generator if you’ll be installing a transfer switch for your primary residence or similar work. Otherwise, a permit for other uses may not be necessary. Check your local building codes or ask a local generator installer for more information about your local regulations.
