"He called me back promptly after I left a phone message. We agreed on an appointment window for the next day. He arrived within the time window given and the job went quicker than I thought it would. His price was very reasonable and I will definitely call him again when I need a locksmith. My overall experience couldn't have gone better. Highly recommended!"

"I contacted Rapid Locksmith Pros to rekey the doors to a store we just rented out because the old tenants didn?t leave out the old keys. We were under the impression we would have to switch out the locks but was happy they were able to make us new keys keeping the same locks on the doors. Great service 5/5"

"I had some issues with my sliding glass doors and found D and L Locksmith and Safe Services on Home Advisor, and decided to give them a call. I met with John Labbe Jr., the principle of the company, and explained the problems I was having with both of my sliding glass doors. My house is a 1980s vintage home located in Regency Oaks Sub, so these doors have been serving various families over the last 35 years, probably without any service on them whatsoever. John went quietly to work on my doors, on an extremely hot and humid Florida morning, took the doors out, did a thorough cleaning of the rails, replaced the wheels, adjusted the lock mechanisms, and reinstalled the doors in their tracks and finally called me to feel the difference in how the doors slid on the tracks and operated in general. Much to my delight, I could now open and close my door with the touch of a finger, where before I had to forcefully push the whole door which essentially was riding on the rail, metal to metal and was a struggle to open and close. What a difference a little workmanship makes in how things operate! John was great to work with, his service was reasonably priced, and he’s now in my permanent go to list for all door, window and lock work in the future. Take my word on this one, D & L Locksmith and Safe Services is worth every dollar spent!"

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Changing door locks is a task that most homeowners can accomplish on their own. Standard door knobs are quite straightforward, and even more advanced locks, like electronic or smart locks, generally come with instructions. That said, the process can be time-consuming, especially if you plan to replace multiple locks around the house. It’s also a task that you want to complete correctly, considering that it affects the security of your house. That’s why hiring a pro is often best when changing your door locks.

Several types of deadbolts are available, including single-cylinder, double-cylinder, rim, smart, and electronic deadbolt locks. The most common type found in U.S. homes is the single-cylinder deadbolt, which uses a key on the exterior and a thumb turn on the interior. A double-cylinder deadbolt features two locking mechanisms and requires a key to be operated from both the inside and the outside.

A deadbolt differs from a regular lock in its design, construction, and security level. Regular locks are typically used for interior doors, such as for bedrooms and bathrooms, and provide minimal security. They are easy to install and use, often featuring a simple locking mechanism on the inside. In contrast, a deadbolt is one of the most secure locks you can install on an exterior door. Its internal construction is designed to withstand significant force, adding a crucial layer of security that can deter intruders. While deadbolts may be more expensive and complicated to install, they are cost-effective for the security they provide and are built to hold up to wear and tear.

Rekeying door locks yourself costs a fraction of what you would expect to pay a locksmith. On average, it costs between $50 to $100 to hire a local locksmith to rekey your house, though labor costs may vary based on where you live. For a DIY solution, you can expect to spend $11 to $25 on a rekeying kit.

Rekeying should be done when employees leave or keys are lost, while replacement may be necessary for outdated or damaged locks.
