"The call to my insurance company was very simple and only took about 10 minutes. The technician who installed my glass was very professional and friendly. They came to replace my windshield at my work that way I did not have to be inconvenienced. I recommend Family Auto Glass to anyone who needs a windshield replaced."

"Roofing USA were very professional throughout. They were punctual, although the work got done a few weeks later than planned but such delays happen in this industry. They seem to have done a good job with the Gaco coating, although I did have to ask them to come back after they were done to redo a few patches that didn't get a thick enough layer. They were happy to do that. They only had to resurface part of my roof - the rest is a walkable roof deck - and they did leave many spots of Gaco on the roof deck which I had to ask them to come back and remove. I though the price was expensive but it was easily going to work out cheaper than the other two companies I contacted. They also had the least disruptive plan for working around my AC/heating unit. I got a higher bid from A+ Sustainable Coatings, and Hollywood Roofing told me I would have to hire a crane to lift that unit off the roof while they worked, which they said would be about $2500. I never did get a complete bid from them but with that extra cost I assumed it wouldn't be competitive, and I didn't think the crane was necessary. With Roofing USA, the price worked out at about $7 per square foot."

"L&D Renovations completely remodeled our upstairs bath. They removed the existing ugly tiles(wall and floor), removed the tub,
relocated the drain and installed clear glass shower doors. It took all most a month but we were not in a schedule crunch we were pleased with work. .....Donnaugh is very competant and thorough.....my only criticism is that she has a very full schedule and sometimes forgets to communicate with changes(she is very busy)..My wife and I gave Donnagh our trust to do the job right and we were not disappointed.

"I ordered cabinets, mirrors and plumbing fixtures with the help of the Arteek designer. All of the staff was awesome and the design experience was easier than expected. My materials came in quickly and were delivered right away. Everything was seamless. Although they are new, Arteek is an amazing showroom with beautiful high end unique products as well as moderately priced merchandise (something for everyone)."

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Installing glass block windows has benefits and disadvantages, as with most materials. The pros and cons can vary depending on the type of glass block and the window location.

Pros

  • Maintains privacy while letting light into the bathroom

  • Energy efficient

  • Sealed to prevent drafts

  • Aesthetically pleasing

  • Strong and secure

Cons

  • Costly to install

  • Challenging installation

  • Challenging repair

Glass block installation can be relatively expensive due to the range of material costs and the labor time to assemble this type of specialty window. The process proceeds slowly as the glass does not absorb moisture from mortar and silicone caulk takes longer to harden, leaving spacers to hold up the structure until the caulk or mortar begins to cure. Plus, if your current windows have structural issues or damage, you’ll need to repair them before beginning the project, increasing your bottom line.

Heavy glass tends to be more expensive than thin glass because it is stronger and more durable. In most cases, ¼-inch-thick glass is ideal for mirrors, and ⅛-inch-thick glass is ideal for residential windows. Heavier glass isn’t always necessary, and can be more challenging to hang or install. Work with a local window installation pro for replacement or new construction windows.

Glass block windows typically last for 15 to 30 years, which is slightly less than the 20- to 50-year lifespan of standard windows. You can extend their life by resealing them every few years. Professional installation is also key to ensuring the windows are placed correctly and will function properly for years to come. A professional installer will have the necessary skills, tools, and knowledge to install these features and can identify potential issues like damaged frames or cramped areas during a consultation.

Yes, professionals can install decorative or colored glass block patterns for a unique look.
