"I am having a full master bath and kitchen remodel done with new layouts in both rooms and knocking out a wall. Evolution worked with me to quickly get a drawing done of the new layouts so that the contractor could get started on the project. They made sure to include me in the process so that the design would be done exactly as my wife and I envisioned. They communicated effectively throughout the process and were always courteous and professional. I recommend them to anyone with drafting needs."

"Very Happy with choosing Golden Temple Builders for my construction needs. Nick the owner was very professional and clearly explained the stages of the project and was able to work with the pricing points that I could commit to. "I was really under the gun due to a prior Architectural firm not performing their duties per building plan codes. Not only were the plans incomplete but the City Plan Reviewer states(The Worst plans he’s ever seen) they will not make adjustments unless there is an additional charge for Thousands. Evaluation’s saved my clients and drew our project per code, along with Engineering in less time then they quoted. I highly recommended them, Especially Kirsten. You went above and beyond trying to coordinate this project. The staff was very professional and I will use them on all my projects. Sincerely, Frank B BCM Builders"

"I have been a customer of Good Guys for more than 20 years. The owner Jason is a straight shooter who will do quality work at a reasonable price. They built a house, warehouse structures, stick built walls, concrete driveways, landscaping. I could go on but you get the picture. I’m definitely a satisfied customer."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Yes, professionals reinforce the foundation with additional supports or piers to prevent future sinking.

Structural engineers can perform various inspections on different structures in your home. These inspections usually include a report detailing the engineer’s findings and recommendations for repairs so you can determine your next course of action for repairs, replacements, or new builds. Some of the most common structural engineering reports include:

  • Full home inspection: $350–$1,000

  • Foundation: $300–$800

  • Load-bearing walls: $300–$1,000

  • Roof: $150–$600

  • Chimney: $200–$500

The depth of any foundation style depends on your climate and how deep the frost line is, as building code requires that the footers of a foundation—which are built into a monolithic slab—sit at least a foot below the frost line. At the southern tip of Florida, for example, a monolithic slab foundation would only need to sit 12 inches under the soil at the widest parts. On some parts of the Canadian border, the frost line is 100 inches, which would mean a minimum of 112 inches, which is prohibitively deep for a monolithic slab.

Any issue that affects the structural integrity or soundness of a home is considered a structural issue. In addition to foundation cracks, other signs of structural issues include roof leaks, bowing walls, sloping floors, gaps around windows and doors, and more.

No, beams are the primary load-bearers for flooring or roofing systems, and they distribute the weight of the structure to your foundational supports, while joists bear far less weight and distribute their loads to the beams. Beams are usually thicker and longer, and they have support posts or foundation walls beneath them for support.
